I prefer SD as well however you will be limited to 2G at this moment in time with most manufacturers. I will have a look around

Nice thread - I'm looking for new ICE too. However I'm not that bothered about SD slots or USB ( though it could be handy).

Currently I have the standard ALANA CD-player in by beeza which is annoying the hell out of me. I'm not really bothered about upgrading the speakers (the standard ones are loud enough for me). SO, what I'm looking for is a fairly decent MP3 CD player for about £100. If it happens to have USB or SD that's a bonus but not necessarily in my spec.

I've had a quick look and I can get a fairly decent make (eg. Pioneer) for this money BUT being a newbie when it comes to car stereos (only had factory fit ones in my cars before) can anyone tell me the brands to look for and specs that should be good (i.e. watts RMPO etc) for that kind of money.

Not coming from Alpine etc I've got lower expectations than the above poster, but I do want good sound clarity if not VOLUME!!!;)

I recently changed the head unit in my coop to an alpine unit which made a whole lot of difference to the sound quality in the car. I would reccomend getting an mdf stealth shelf for the back to mount your speakers onto especially if you go down the sub route. I,ve found that if you match up the RMS values of the amp and speakers then the amount of bass and sound from a set of 6x9" is pretty good.
My old mini had no reer seats just mdf panel 2 x 10" sub and a set of 6x9 running of two amps ( my poor battery) now that was loud.
The standard speakers in the leon doors are pretty good and should be more than capable of handling a decent head unit can throw at them.
From experience make sure you get a good quality amp as some of the cheaper ones are pretty shoddy when you start throwing toones at them and dont be blinded by MAX WATTS etc.
Speaker wise cant see past JBL for the price and performance. I would suggest getting and amp and running a set of 6x9 to start and see what you think after that. Ice is something you can add to as you go untill you get a system you are happy with.
Depends if you want people to see or hear you first.:rocker:

Hope this helps

Mate you can get the JVC KD-722 with usb for £2 quid more than that jvc you have quoted (next model up), check out http://www.audio66.com/, i got mine from there and found it to be the cheapest online, no problems with service.

I have no experience with Pioneer so cant say, i just went for the looks and features of it tbh, as it has the red illumination on parts of it so it fits in with the dash more.

I thought that about the red illumination as well.. Lots of blue lights would look completely out of place in a matt black dashboard where everything is illuminated in red!!

I would go for the JVC. I still maintain they make the best quality and best sounding head units in the low-to-mid range price bracket.
