Arm rest jammed in up position!

My arm rest is jammed in the up position. The release button pushes in and out but it doesn't release the arm rest.

Any ideas?

Thanks

try holding down the release button and pushing the arm rest further rearwards slightly. The catch should release and let you bring it down.
Mine does this too.

Hi iamrcb.
Have you managed to sort this irritating problem? My front armrest is stuck upright too - and it rattles. It's resisted all attempts to move it, including (they say) an unsuccessful hour-and-a-half of tugging at it by local SEAT specialist. They say it needs a new one - at £159, which is just barking! It's neither use nor ornament at the moment, but I could do with the storage (even tho' it gets in the way in town driving) because the CD stacker fills the glovebox and the door pockets are piddly. Suggestions welcome....

firstly, an apology for this unhelpful response.

I did solve the arm rest problem by selling the car. The garage who bought it (part ex) didn't check

I got a Skoda Fabia VRS instead. Very pleased with it.

No arm rest though....

Had this problem myself, the button is still broken but I did manage to lower it into the horizontal position.... at least I can use it now and it doesn't rattle anymore!!!

If you press down the release button, you'll see two holes, one either side of it. Get a torch and shine it in one of them and you'll see a small metal bar, it's basically the release button. Use a screwdriver to push it downwards (downwards when the armrest is upright anyway).

Sounds easy.... it is if you've three hands because you need to press the switch at both sides at the same time, probably while still holding the torch you needed to shine into the second hole to see the switch.... you get the picture anyway!

I managed to get mine down to the first stop, but it's still too high so I'll have to give it another go this weekend and try to get it lower.

edit - incidentally, the rattle disappears because the button is no longer free to move up/down in motion with bumpy roads, it can only move front to back when the armrest is horizontal.
