Fitted my coilovers today. I also bought some adjustable droplinks because I was planning on going down about 40mm

My adjustable droplinks are longer than the standard plastic ones....I extended them about 4-5mm and fitted them as I was under the impression I wanted to push the ARB up from the driveshaft? However on testdrive it rubbed like a bitch!

I adjusted them a further 1" but the further I extended them the more they rubbed on the drive shaft?

Looking at the set up I need shorter than standard droplinks as when the ARB is pulled down lower the curve of the ARB sits nicely over the driveshaft and is nowhere near touching......in fact the standard droplinks are better for me than the uprated ones.

Have I bought the wrong adjustable droplinks? I'm thinking I hould have bought Shorter adjustable ones and not longer?

What have you lot done?

I managed to get some pics that I'll add in a min

As you can see when extended the front of the ARB very nearly touches the drivesahft and does touch it when driven

If however I were to use shorter than standard droplinks the ARB would pull down nicely and not rub at all

I'm a bit confused at I thought I had bought the right ones?

Yeah I first fitted them as they came out of the box which turned out to be about a 70mm drop as pictured here

co5.jpg

That was far to low as the wheels actually rubbed on the inside of the arches and also the ARB hit the DS

I then raised it up to about 45mm and the ARB still hit the DS

I'm now running about 35mm drop and I've cut the thread in the adjustable droplinks so there standard length and they dont rub.... but its close.

The thing is I'm pretty sure if I had SHORTER droplinks and not longer I could drop it about 40-45mm as I wanted and have no rubbing issues as the curve of the ARB would come over the DS? The thing thats putting me off cutting them right down is I was under the impression I needed these longer ones to push the ARB upwards?

What have you lot with normal LC's done with your droplinks, do you have longer or shorter than standard ones?

Anyone know if your surposed to move it up or down?

I'm pretty sure...and common sense from looking at it tells me it needs shorter droplinks to move it down?

Just want to double check before I cut them down as bit confused why the adjustable ones are longer if they need to be shorter

Surely some of you lot must have fitted these to stop rubbing?

Higher what the coilover or the droplink?

I have it about 35mm at the mo and it doesnt catch but its bloody close.....I want it about 45mm tho hence buying the coilovers I just really want a bit of assurance before I go cutting the £50 droplinks up.

Basically I don't understand why peopple say move the ARB up when moving it up makes it closer and I just want to check if other people have fitted shorter or longer links.

I can't see how anything has been fitted wrong so I not sure why mine needs adjusting other way to everyone elses

moving the arb up moves it higher above the driveshaft, 45mm is very low on the cupra and wont do any justice to the handling mate..which is the point of fitting coilovers isnt it.

no point cutting them as there suppose to do the job standard.

if you pull the arb down then it will catch more, as in post 3....

Post 3 where I have made it shorter is actually further away then post 2 and if I remove the ARB down without the droplink it sits far better so I'm guessing they need to be shorter.

In pic 2 when its adjusted up it pushes the roll bar back on an angle so it hits the DS, moving it up actually moves it closer and its actually touching in this pic.

I want 45mm in a compromise between handling and looks.....I dont push it that hard I only use it on the road and not track etc.

Right after searching through the forum I've found I do actually need shorter droplinks [:@]

Christ knows why V-Max sell adjustable ones that are longer than standard to start with when they need to be shorter than standard....what a waste of my money :censored:

I'll have to cut them down.....at least they will still be adjustable so can go to the length they are now when adjusted.....just a lot of hassle.

Stop!! I tried longer and shorter ones. I bought BMW links which are very short and had them drilled. That didnt work either. It all depends on how thick your drive shaft is.If you have a thick driveshaft you will need a new ARB..I bought an Eibach one which has bigger loops. It has allowed me to go lower but not as low as i would like. Try a Neuspeed ARB that will clear your drive shaft. I actually found re fitting the original links were better than any replacements. It all depends on what driveshaft was fitted to your car.

I took mine off earlier and dropped the ARB down and it will fit a treat if its lower as the curve sits right over the drive shaft [I'm sure you'll know what I mean? lol]

As mine are adjustable I'm going to cut them right down and try them, they will still have enough adjustment to put back to standard length so I can always go back to standard or fit the originals if needed.

Will take some pics when its done for people doing in in the future.

Quite a bit of trial and error fitting but fingers crossed its going to work.........if not I'll get a neuspeed ARB

Thanks for that :)

Just for reference I lowered it down to where I wanted it and cut the droplinks down so they were shorter and there are no rubbing issues at all :)

Bit of an update to this.....when under it the other day the DS has ever so slightly been touching the ARB so I'm going to take a bit more off the droplink and fit some uprated bushes.........but first I got to fix my steering rack :(
