There are some good software and hardware reviews both on here and over on www.mk5golfgti.co.uk. As mentioned earlier in this thread though, most people won't be that critical of the code they chose for their car regardless of it being code a, b or c. Pick the code which has the most important attribute(s) for you - ie price, availability, support and service, flexibility, performance etc and decide for yourself. If you don't want biased opinions, PM those who you know have that code on their car for an opinion without others jumping on it.

I would be happy to give opinions on the maps I have had on my cars if you wish, on here or by PM.

I made it no secret that I planned on switching to REVO from APR after being underwhelmed by my Stage 2+. Even after the v2.2 update in 2009.

I am now, however really glad I hung in there now APR have the HQ in Milton Keynes. Keith is a very helpful bloke & now I have the V3.1 file on my car am very happy with the power.

I am hoping / looking forward to trying the linear throttle pedal if/when they release it as I think it will complete my setup. (other than hybrid or stage III)

Am I correct in thinking you trialled some APR stage one software? Apologies if I'm confusing you with someone else.

But what made you choose REVO over APR?

As the other guys have offered - if the OP is considering GIAC stage one I can let you know my experiences.

Any WMI plans? Think this is where I am going next.

Keep considering it. Maybe. I bought a kit 2 years ago but decided not to fit & sold it on.

Im thinking I should just go hybrid or stage III for more power & WMI afterwards to tweak the setup

As above LC_15 thought you tried APR and said how great it was?
How come you went to Revo?

I've tried Revo on my last FR stage 1 and 2 and also tried APR stage 1 pm me if I can help you at all.

I have trialled the APR software and then I recently Purchased the Revo stage 1 as loads of people where saying how great it is, but after 2 days of having it i am returning to have the map removed, this is due to the fact i dont get along with the software, to me the power feels really high and i dont really want to hammer the car just to get the power from it. Kevin at Revo assured me that i can change the settings but i would have to keep going back to them (2 hours each way) which i really dont want to do.

I will be going for the APR stage 1 as i got along with the power delivery and the fact i can have both 95 Ron and 98 Ron maps and switch whenever i want.

Revo are a great company and very nice people, but the power was just delivered wrong for me.

I've got a bit of sponge you can put under your pedal if it's too much?

In all seriousness, I think that the trait with both trials is that they're not full fat

Are you 100% sure the APR map offers you 95 and 98 ron maps on stage 1?
It certainly is not available on a cupra R
I also think a APR map is much kinder to transmision and clutch. It seems to give similar power but oem smooth.

well i could switch between them when he loaded it onto my cupra, ill have to double check?

And yes i found it very smooth too and it pushes you back in the seat more.

Maybe different ecu or map on a R then.
I think whether Revo or APR it all depends on your driving style.
I think the advantage of APR is the power is delivered more progressive from a lower rpm rather than a big thump higher up the rpm.

Yes Hence why i shall be gettin the APR Map.

But as Kev said it can be changed on the Revo map so dont let that put you off.

I am tempted to go straight to Stage2 as all i need is a downpipe.

Seeing as people asked;

The first proper mapped/chipped VAG car I had was a 1998 Passat TDi 110, done by a cheapo cowboy mapper who I can't remember the name of. The car was quick enough with the map and still had good mpg, but it belched out smoke like you wouldn't believe. That taught me that you should buy something tried and tested, and that if you buy cheap, you probably will end up buying twice and cost yourself more in the long run.

My 2004 SEAT Toledo Sport 1.8T had a map from a tuner in Fife who will remain nameless. The code was actually pretty good - the r/r figures and performance were very nice and the car drove well too. I would not go back to that tuner however as customer service and locality were an issue for me. At the time however, it was the closest option available to me, and others had praised the map, so I took the chance.

I had my old MK2 LC REVO tuned from a local company who went out of business last year as a result of internet parts costing them too many sales of wheels/ICE/performance parts - not that it is relevant now, but it is still my opinion they never moved enough with the times, but the customer service in there was very very good - if only they took a similar route to the likes of JKM, Awesome GTi or similar, I am sure they would have still been in business. Scotland badly needs a company like them.....

Anyway, back to the code, in my opinion, like the customer service of the place who mapped the car, the REVO code they used was very good also as was the performance in Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+ guises. In my experience, the issue with the flat spot mentioned several times above is more of a trait on the 2.0T engine when tuned than the software, and I had/have logs from so many other mapped 2.0T's with various maps that did the same thing to varying degrees.

And for the other 19% of the 20% of Willy Wavers who are interested in going quickly.....:).........

.....for those hell bent on being the fastest, in my experience and opinion, REVO code is arguably the most flexible - what other code can be finely adjusted to take advantage of modifications like WMI, no air conditioning core, fuel additives etc by way of adjusting boost, fuel and timing to suit?

For those not hell bent on being the fastest - ie Mr Joe Punter who just wants a quick car, the plus side of REVO is that when the car gets mapped, it can have the recommended settings for their car based on any/all modifications and run it for the life of the car that way. I know of at least 3 other people local to me in that exact boat, each with a Leon Cupra 2.0T and they are all happy too.

Finally....

.....for what its worth, turn the clock back two years, and there was a complete APR car (intercooler, exhaust, fuel pump etc and the associated APR code), a GIAC car (Extreme 2+) and a REVO Stage 2+ Leon Cupra all running on the same day at the same runway. Ignoring 1/4 mile times, and focusing on terminal speeds (which tend to be similar +/- 1-2mph regardless of the 1/4 mile time), REVO had the fastest terminal speed (115mph) followed by GIAC (112mph) followed by APR (108mph). running on the same track on the same day. And if that is not conclusive enough, if you look at terminal speeds on the 1/4 mile tables on other forums, REVO cars tend to be doing the fastest speed by the end of the set 1/4 mile distance when compared to cars with other maps.

JonnyC who posted above, according to his own 1/4 mile table, still has the fastest known terminal speed on the 1/4 mile for a DSG 2.0TFSi Golf Edition 30 using a REVO Stage 2+ code (115.85mph). The fastest terminal speed on a Manual Leon Cupra 2.0T was also a REVO car on that same table with a terminal speed of 115.10mph (although it was actually 115.40mph).

Back to the present, and all the new products, facts and figures etc, I am sure someone else will be along to post their experience, thoughts, facts and figures behind their choice, and you should consider them too :)

It sounds as if the problem to u with the Revo was the throttle response....did u not ask for the Linear map from Revo?

no I didn't I have already made my mind up tho, an changing to the apr map as it even felt quicker etc.

It wasn't the throttle response its that I have to rev above 4.5k to get any serious power.

Sorry mate but i find that very hard to believe u had to rev further than 4.5k revs with the Revo to get any serious power...LOL!!

Here's my graph when I had the stage1 Revo

Pov - where is the proof of the fastest 1/4 mile and 30-130?

So no proof really unless it is possible to prove where/when it was done and if it was also possible to prove no other 2.0T Golf R20T has done it faster.

Its a pointless comparison with a Leon anyway because it has DSG and 4 wheel drive.

Genuine question here, but has an R20T with different software and similar upgrades been tested in the same way on the same day at the same place back to back with this APR Golf to prove the APR Golf is faster?

Regardless, it is all irrelevant to people on here because the Leon neither has DSG or 4x4 in Cupra/Cupra R spec. Once APR put their code on a MK2 Leon with a K04 turbo, no DSG and no 4x4 it will be more interesting to see the results on the same tests :).

Hopefully this will be the start of better things to come from all players in the tuning market which ultimately works out better for us all.

I was there at the pod when Keith did that run. It as his first run of the day done on normal road tyres as well. Its also still running the standard intercooler.

Purely going off of the 1/4 mile leaderboard you have some comparable times with REVO.

2 ). 12.701 @ 114.58 - MAN - GT3071R - REVO S3 - ROAD TYRE - AUDI S3 - Andy Oram
3 ). 12.733 @ 107.70 - MAN - OEM K04 - REVO S2+ - ROAD TYRE - AUDI S3 - David_Phillips95

So the APR Golf R has got half a second on them. I appreciate his has the DSG and launch control, but still, hes half a second ahead. When we see some APR FWD cars going up there im sure we'll see a closer match. i cant see JonnyCs Ed30 time being toppled from the 2nd spot though as that was a heavily stripped out with no air con, WOT box etc etc.

ref apr as a whole Im now on my 3rd map with my car and am now a happy bunny. Very nearly went with REVO, but always had it in the back of my mind that they are pushing it to much, and id end up needing a new engine however i do want to push the envelope on the performance of my car and REVO does make the figures, theres no denying that so i was still considering them.

But something APR said to me just made sense and helped me with my decision to change yet again

'We will be able to maximise the safe potential of this engine with no issues at all. The only way REVO will make more figures is if they push past the safe parameters of engine'

I like that ethos of tuning. I also like the progressive delivery of the APR maps much more than the initial REVO surge.
