APR Re-map's characteristics

Hi guys,

Considering an APR re-map to my Ibiza Cupra.
Wondering if you guys can help me on a few questions I have.

1) After re-map does it pull nicely through the revs? ie strong to 6500rpm. as opposed to other re-map companys who add a lot of boost but power feels flat at 5000rpm?

2) Am I right in thinking that the remap will give around 15-16psi of boost?

3) Has anyone had a rolling road done with just a APR map or with minor mods also? If so what bhp and torque figures are you getting?

4) Lastly any reported problems associated with APR and mk3's?

Thanks in advance guys.
fred.

Hi

thanks for the quick reply, is yours the 180bhp as standard leon? If so does that mean it has ko3s turbo?

cheers

i'll dig some out and post it tomorrow for you mate. Yeah it pulls well, its hard for them to pull strongly all the way to the top end with a standard cat and downpipe etc, plus the turbo just runs out of puff, the peak power i think came in at about 4,500rpm then starts to tail off, but pretty much all 1.8T's do with the standard DP/CAT.

Andy's right, with the rest of the standard restrictive kit still fitted, good torque after 5000 is virtually impossible, ive got stage 2 revo and have a fmic, all silicone bits in between, induction kit, 2 1/4 exhaust system cat back it revs a lot higher than 5k now, i only need to replace the downpipe now and ill see exactly how muc the k03s can give, most people say 245 brake.

hi ive got an APR remap, miltek cat back and induction and i'm very happy with the way it drives. I find that there is a drop off after 5k but it holds its power alot better after 5k when I use optimax and its not so noticeable. I'm just down the road from you I live in Taunton and I'm sure you could pop down to have a look. Even better though would be to get the trial put on your car, Performance driven in Taunton is an APR dealer and I'm sure that they would be more than happy to sort you out with the 5 hour trial.

As for power figures I've not had my car on a decent rolling road but at TSR it made 170bhp at the wheels on a rather hot day.

Cheers for all the info guys, extremely handy! I did ask Performance Driven for a trial but because its an 2002 model they could not do so! :(

Andy if you could put some print outs up that would be extremly handy thanks.

As I can only afford a stage 1/generic map would all the companys maps behave like the ones talked about? ie due to still having restrictive exhaust they wont pull strongly past 5k rpm?

cheers again
fred.

they are all going to be pretty similar imo but the best thing for you to do is to geet a trial done. If performance driven can't help you then go to TSR in bridgewater they are a revo dealer and they're also very good there so i'm sure they'll sort you out and as I said I could always take you out for a quick spin if your stuck and want to see what the APR remap is like.

CushnerCupra - I may have to take you up on that offer! I have tried TSR on numerous occasions for a trial but i always get the same reply.... "sorry far too busy!" lol. you would think theyd jump at the chance considering the could get over £400 for 5 mins work! lol. never mind!

I know what you mean! ive been there a couple of times and although they seem to know what they are doing they always seem to be short and lacking in customer service from my point of veiw.

I always use performance driven being using them for almost 2 yrs now and they have always given top quality service that why i suggested them. Supprised to see that they weren't more helpful for you.

P.M me if you want to go for a quick spin.

Unfortunately it isnt possible to do the 6 hour trial on the Ibiza mk3's as they are a physical chip change. This is due to the amount of memory space that the remap needs. The ECU only has around 1/2 a meg of space where as the map needs a full meg.
