Anything to look for when buying 2.0 tdi fr?

Hey all,

I currently own a BMW 330d sport which I shall be trading in hopefully next week, im after any info you guys can give me on what to look out for when buying, so far my fave choice is the 2.0 tdi fr inchrono yellow but finding one that suits my requirements seems to prove difficult without travelling halfway round the country, my budget is roughly 14k inc part ex.

Hopefully il be on here a fair bit more once I have found one ;-))

the 2.0TDI can be nothing but trouble because of the DPF. Search up about it.

The cupra is the pick of the bunch

Gazza, I own a magic black FR550 TDI and love it. The DPF has never given me issues and with a remap is as quick as a standard petrol FR plus with you coming from diesel you will know and expect as to what they drive like and the fuel economy. I get about 47 mpg on the way to work, back roads and a bit of motorway driving. I love my car, yes everyone would love a Cupra, but to start out with, I wouldn't swap my car for anything else at the minute. If you need any help, we're all here to help.

Would love to but it has to be a diesel I'm afraid, My brother has the golf gt tdi which I believe has the same engine as the FR and he says it can be a common problem if the car is used mainly for short journeys, but as I travel 40+ A road miles a day to work it should be ok (so I'm told ;-) )

Yeah, will be fine then. Yes, the golf has the same engine, although the facelift Leon has the Common Rail diesel, which produces less soot so shouldn't effect DFP as much and also cheaper to tax

Yes should be. Basically the uglier looking leons.

Usually there should be no trouble with dpf doing 40+ miles but it has hapenned, some will say its all down to driving style. I suppose you could always cut the dpf out if it starts giving too much trouble.

Right, I finally got down to my not so local dealers today and took a 2.0 tdi fr out for a spin, and my 1st impressions were that it has loads of torque low down in the rev range and felt slot quicker and responsive than my BMW, the only downside was it was red.

I have browsed through autotrader (again) and have found a few more possibilitys I might go for,

Just one other question, is it only the 2.0 tdi FR that has the 170bhp?

Hi mate , the FR tdi as a tool is a good car , comfortable and gutsy , dont be fooled by the 170 bhp that is qouted , more than often they are nearer 200 bhp.
On a 1/4 mile drag at santa pod there was only about 2 seconds in it between my Cupra and my girlfreinds FR diesel , both standard cars.

Yellow , the best colour to go for , but i would say that
i dont think red suits the car very well and black is boring my opinion of course
, a lot of people say that yellow are cheaper to buy because its a marmite colour so put this to the test when making a deal.

Bluetooth is a must , dont forget mats , the aluminium kit breaks up the black cabin nicely , but i just painted mine but it looks the tits !

check rear tyre wear for even wear , say that when your drunk !
You get a lot of standard equipment so you are not left wanting for things , its 10 times better than the golf and ore exculsive.
