Anyone know whats under the car in the drivers position?

Anyone know whats under the car drivers pos.... car back, worse news than before now!

On my 56 Ibiza FR TDi

This week ive noticed that theres a banging coming from unerneath the car in the driver position, and its banging so i can actually feel it if my foots on the floor.

ive had a "glance" look underneath and cant see anything apparent, but i havent had it up or anything yet, and have also noticed there is a radiator looking thing fastened to the underside of the car under the drivers seat.

Anyone got an idea what could be banging on the floor?

Whats the radiator for?

its a fuel cooler for the return line to the tank , maybe the plastic shield has come loose

its actually banged when the car was just idling, think ill have to put it on ramps at the weekend and watch it cos i have no idea what it could be

ivebeen paying attention to it today, it does it when the car is switched off too and isnt coming from underneath and only seems to do it when the car has had a good run to get up to temp, but if you put your hand on the carpet inside on the driver footwell you can feel it tapping, is there anything running under the carpet?

this is an odd 1! get it up on the ramp while running and have a butchers but if its doing it when turned off thats weird

Sounds like your fuel lines have come lose. The knocking noise you can hear with the engine off is the fuel pump cutting in causing the fuel hoses to vibrate against the body. Hope this helps.

if you put your hand on the carpet inside on the driver footwell you can feel it tapping, is there anything running under the carpet?

Listen carefully - is it three quick taps, followed by three slow taps, then three quick ones again ? Could be that mouse tapping SOS

ive had a look on a four post ramp so i could get right under, it seems to be coming from the area just in from the fuel rad. theres like a raised out section of metal that has pipes going through it, and its exactly like a knock sound, a dull thud.

and about it doing it when the engine is off, after a good run it does it as soon as the engine is switched off then after a time stops, then if i restart the engine after maybe 15 mins itll start knocking again, but after a while then stops. rinse repeat cycle. it only seems to do it if the car is already warmed too, first thing in the morning no bangs.

Also when the ignition turns on i can hear the rushing fuel (which i thought was the fuel pump) but there arent any bangs when that happens

some lad who worked at seat reckons its the DPF, didnt think 1.9s had a DPF, but he also thought this engine was euro5 so i didnt pay too much attention to what he was saying

if the ignition is off tho it wont be the fuel pump and fuel lines knocking

unless the beezers fuel pump gets up to fuel pressure when the drivers door is opened like on some new cars!

i didnt think it did start pumping on the beezer when the drivers door is opened il listen out for the next time i get in my car!

the knocking will only happen after ive switched the engine off after its got warm and i dont have to open the door to make it do it, it sounds like a sticking piston in a pump or something, then it bangs when it finally lets loose

dont they use mouse code rather the morse code? perhaps sos is universal

its still happening, but mine is only happening when the car is at a standstill after it has got warm, ie traffic queue

mines booked in for the 19th, charging for a courtesy car? thats not courteous
