My car is at my local independent garage as my dpf light came on first then the coil light with engine workshop needed message!

They just rang me back saying the dpf needs cleaning and a re gen!

Would you say this is genuine?

My car has done 70k miles and has never needed cleaning before?

Based on my error lights and message on the dashboard would you say this is a accurate fault and needs cleaning?

Or is there a more simple fix?

How much do you think it's gonna cost?

By DPF cleaning what you really mean ?? Do not let anyone to take off DPF and use pressure washer or anythin similar to clean it off...

Tell them to do forced regeneration ... unless problem is with sensor around DPF but replacement with labour should be no more than £120.

Best idea is to get DPF removed...

I have heard some people are putting adblue or something like it down the pressure sensor tube and then running it up the road! Not sure if it works just some thing i heard

I wouldn't let anyone get near my DPF with any fluids. All that fluids will do is cause sticky gunk inside it as apposed to a buildup of dry ash powder. It's quite common for the DPF to have a faulty pressure sensor that causes your problem. I would ask them for the error codes and soot level readings that lead them to think it's blocked. They probably think it's blocked because they are getting an out of range pressure fault code (faulty pressure sensor) There must be 50 people on here that have had pressure sensors replaced. Some have even replaced them DIY and gone for a blast up the motorway to clean it all out.

Sounds like your garage is BS-ing you.

The pressure sensors are about £50 if I remember correctly and good garages charge about £100 to supply and fit them.
