My Leon has developed a really annoying rattle. It sounds like its coming from the underneath / back of the car on the passenger side and happens when going over bumpy roads at low speed. If you hit a a pump it sort of goes ddddrrrrrrrr. I presume something might be rattling against the floorpan.

Havent been able to get underneath to have a good look around yet. Anyone experienced this and found the cause?

Regards

Shaun

Pull the back seats forward and wrap insulating tape round the metal retaining clips on the bodywork - this will form a tighter fit when the seats are pushed back into place and hoepfully stop the rattle. I had the same thing and this sorted it out, you will need to replace the tape every 6 months or so.

unfortunately i've done it,also on the clip of the boot!it's not from there!seat people cheched the lock and it was ok,its really-really strange because when you hit a bump the noise is exactly like the boot isn't closed 100%!they said that at the service they will open all the plastics from the rear and try to find it.

I had a similar sounding rattle and it turned out to be the CD storage holder just behind the centre armrest. I too thought it was something at the back of the car.

Has anyone had any luck fastening the heatshield back tightly? I have a very similar sounding rattle but I don't really fancy a trip to the dealer...

I had the same knocking like the boot wasn't properly closed on my last car (Audi tt) and all it needed was the rubber bump stops to be unscrewed a couple of turns. That then creates tension on the boot latch instead of it flapping around when you go over the bumps.

Worth a try along with everyone else's suggestions!
