i had some bits of foam like stufff kickin around and used these to make the ipod a nice snug fit.. i then drilled holes in the back of the ashtray for the cable to come though and for the plug to sit in when its conected

the ipod adapter allows the ipod to be controlled via the pioneer head unit

Just did the exact same install in my LCR this evening. Just have to cut out the whole in the ashtray though. Ran out of time this evening so something to keep me out of trouble tomorrow night.

Pioneer head unit

Hi Muttly,

I really like that install - it looks neat and the iPod is kept safe.

You say you have a Pioneer head unit and iPod control box - can I ask how you get on with it? Is it much improvement over the standard Leon system?

I am hopefully getting a Leon FR in the next few weeks and it has the standard single slot CD. I was considering getting a Dension Ice>Link for my 60Gb iPod Video (though the one I had in my Altea was not fantastic!) or maybe the iTrip Auto but now I'm wondering if it would be better to replace the standard head unit as well.

Any comments on your experience (or anyone else!) would be appreciated :)

Thanks

thanx for the comments ... i cant comment on the original leon head unit.. as i bought the car with the pioneer one already in it ..its a pioneer deh-p8600mp ..

i find it an excelent head unit..ive got a pioneer cd changer in the car too..but was fed up with it skipping all the time..i fink it may be faulty..so i bought the ipod adapter for £69 it does alow u to keep the cd changer too beacuse it uses the same cable ..so u simply plug the cd changer into the ipod adaptor so u can use both if u so wish

it controls the ipod nicely.. idealy wiv all my mp3's i really need to organise them more on the ipod into playlists ..so u can find the song you want easier

i wouldnt like to say if the ipod adpater would fit an i-river mp3 player..but i would guess its not very likey

thanx matt

If you need a simple AUX in cable to listen to a source, why not do what I did and hack into the IP-BUS with a Homebrew DIY cable on the back of the Pioneer HU (I've got the DEH-P70BT). Currently use it to listen to MP3's on my mobile and PDA (obviously not at the same time).

Volume isn't amplified, but works a treat - didn't want anything special.

Very nice install matey, good idea with the foam and its also good to keep it hidden somewhere from view! Got one of these in my golf and its quality, dont think i will ever be able to go back to CDs!
