Ambient lighting in FR

Having spoken to our dealer, they have a car with exactly the same issue (on theirs, the ambient colour was red but then switched to white and can't be changed back again). They are raising the question directly with Seat.

Must be a software error... it's been rumbling for a bit. I was wondering whether people were colour blind . Wonder if that's the software in the infotainment unit which needs fixing or in another module "ambient light module" or something. Feels like an infotainment unit update is required to get it sorted or central electrics. Factory resetting I guess is the other option and being told not to touch it till it's fixed ?.

I do agree althought it would be cool if the footwell lighting could also change colour, or something in the rear it just seems very dark at night, compared to the front.

Pretty. Presume the front only gets lit when parked else it may be considered a distraction.

It stays on all the time the headlights are on unless you manually turn it off in the infotainment

The Ateca version least on pre 2020 FL is white in the foot wells and phone placement point. Those can be individually changed (on and off, not colour via menus). We never got rear foot well lighting in the UK, some DIY tasks I've seen for that. One led point. My front passenger one they forgot to plug in. Some markets only got a drivers foot well light. Those are point led lights rather than a glass fibre strip fed by coloured leds which is how they do the wrap around lights and the door lights prior to this on the Ateca.

You should be able to find the Led light for the foot wells. The Ateca used the same led in the boot. VAG standard units which plug in.

I had the same problem in mine they forgot to plug in the driver's side. Its just that the colours seem a bit off at times with everything being blue (or another colour) and white footwells, just a little bit of extra customisation

A strip in the foot well could also be good at lighting them up evenly as having the light unit at the side means my foot/leg blocks the light leaving half the footwell dark, but that's being really picky :p

As soon as we clicked on "Individual" on the menu option, the colour changed from blue/white to red on the door lighting. We have still found no way of changing it back. It's now either red or off.

Hmmm is yours one of the ones that's suppose to have the multi colour option or one of the ones that hasn't. One can see that if it isn't then shifting off the defaults if it was half engineered you could get stuck if they used the same technology but it was suppose to be limited or perhaps they updated the software during production or it's a bug. Feels like a bug although there are people out there that love it (above) or haven't been affected by the bug yet.

Exchanging build dates might turn up something.

Feels like searching German forums may be required.... That's where I found out about Ateca production issues in 2016. Motorised tailgate had production issue for month on the control unit... got affected by that one - that I found on a German forum - they were recalled for reprogramming. Let you do that as a proud owner.

Im taking my new MK 4 in on Thursday with the same problem as well. Looking at all the posts I not that confident they are going to fix it as well but Ill let you know. Mine is just stuck on blue and all I can change is the brightness, there is no colour option to pick from. I would be happy to hard reset the system but even the guy in the sales room (over the phone) said he didn't know how to on the new units. The car is brilliant but this is disappointing as its a big feature in all the press and you tube videos etc. Has anyone paid to upgrade the wraparound feature and did it work?

You can factory reset the infotainment, you need to go to the 'settings app' in the list there will be a factory reset option

The wrap around works very well, I haven't had any issues with mine.

Small issue is it doesn't show the brightness for footwell/door card lights. You can change the brightness and it remembers after restarting car, but if you go to the ambient lighting page a press the button to change the brightness the slider is set to 0. Everything still works it's just the slider keeps going to 0 when restarting car, they forget to set the position of the slider a Small software bug.

Thanks Dan Ill have a look at that.

The thing about the factory reset is that it resets the parameters in infotainment unit, if the bugs are in how the parameters are controlled in the unit or how the cars systems interface it won't fix them. An example was an early Ateca Cupra one, not the face lifted, where the blind spot wasn't working (common fault). It just needed the blind spot fault corrected via VCDS then it worked.

The cars a sort of distributed computer system where the units talk to each other. You would clear faults with VCDS first which is a reset in the distributed systems but obviously if the software is faulty a clear won't sort it out. This is where the dealer starts to talk about changing the coding although with FL ones you can't do that yourself.

It's amazing how cars have evolved and become these amazingly complex systems that even the manufacturer struggles to understand. The tec is great in advertising and when it all works, but I'm beginning to regret how much of my life I've spent trying to get things to do what I'm expecting (or watching the little bar creep across to 100%).

”Open the bay doors Hal", "I'm sorry Dave, they forget to programme that module and the manual is wrong".

Up date from Seat dealer my ambient lights that was stuck on BLUE so that's why I took them in as a Liverpool fan the last colour I wanted was blue lol. When they have tried it its now white and they say for the FR edition it will only be white! To say Im confused would be an understatement, but looking at all the above comments we all seem to start of with one colour that you can't change but they are all different, which then after trying to change it turns into another random colour. Trying to get a definitive answer on the SEAT web site is not possible as well, so its looks like Ill have to make do with what ever colour it gives me on each drive

Our FR 1.5 150 remains stuck on Red (which we don't mind). However, the whole thing seems a complete joke. Why offer an "individual" option on the colour choice if it then sets it to a random unchangeable colour!

Hey guys , I had ordered the new mk4 FR and i just saw this post.

I have the last Ibiza FR and wanted to tell you a little story
When I bought the Ibiza the dealer had told me that I will have red or white ambient lighting on the doors.
First time in the car and I had red lights on the doors, I was searching to change it to white , couldn't find something.

I went to the dealer because I had another problem and asked how I can change the colour. They said to me that from searching the VIN my car doesn't have the option to change colours, so I said ok and I left.

Next night I saw that my infotainment was reseted ( maybe from the other problem that I had , they might had removed the battery) and then I saw that the light on the doors was White.

So from red now I have white with no option to change it back.

I will sell the Ibiza this week to buy the new Leon so will not search this more , I just wanted to tell you that the same problem exist in IBIZA also.

The Leon that I tested was magnetic tech with only white ambient color on the doors ( no Wrap around)

Sorry for the large post and my poor English

Hi all - I stumbled across this whilst pondering if my Leon had the adjustable ambient lighting.

mine has always been white.

I do not have the menu to change the profile but I can adjust the brightness. When changing the display it tells me the lighting is set to Individual, but I can not change this.

Interestingly, my dashboard does not light up, just the doors and foot wells.

I wonder if this is what is meant by ‘wraparound’ - hence the lack of any adjustable parameters?

That said, it looks like here is an LED strip in there but could easily be blank.

Anyone else without adjustable colours missing the dash LEDs?

What you have comes as standard, it’s not the wraparound version.
