Today i was suppose to have a Toad Cat 1 alarm fitted to my car. The fitter came out to my work and said if he had any problems he'd give me a bell. About 45 mins later he calls me and asks me to go outside.
I go outside and he says that he cannot fit the alarm to my car because it has a canbus system on the car
. He said that basically if he fitted the alarm it would have fu*ked my ecu up and a load of warning lights would have came up on the dash. He said he didnt want to fit it and risk doing this damage to the car, and that he would rather walk away from it than fook it up .
Anyway he told me that the car already had a cat1 alarm on it which i was also confused about as seat dont list it on brochures as being a cat1.
He'd rang up his office to check that it did have a cat1 and about the canbus system and they said it did, he then rang up thacham to double check that it did and that it was a canbus system on the car and they said it did aswell. He then rang Listers seat up were i got the car from and they said that the car didnt come with an alarm or immobiliser on it and he said so why is it going off then?
They then double checked on the computer after he gave them the reg and they also confirmed that it was a cat 1 as they come standard on Fr's and Cupra's.
So when i come to renew my car insurance next week, and i tell them it had a cat1 fitted as standard, will they ask for proof and how will i provide it?
