It's on the front face of the cross-member under the front passenger seat. You'll need to remove the plastic trims at the front of the cill, rear of the cill / b-pillar, and the cill. There are one or two sneaky screws holding them on amongst many spring clips. You can then lift the carpet enough to get to the two torx bolts holding the sensor in place and the electrical connector. I would disconnect the battery first in case you accidentally deploy the airbag. Only the exact sensor will work. I ended buying from Lister's who were cheapest but still a lot for such a small thing. You'll need a vagcom or similar to reset the dash light. Apparently they often fail after getting water in the footwell, so I'm surprised that the sensor issue rarely comes up when there are so many forum posts about water in footwells.

Cheers. Any idea of cost? I have had a wet footwell, so probably thats what caused it. I have a reader that can clear the code, so thats not an issue

It was some time ago and, if I recall correctly, a shade over £100. I had thought that with the sensor in my hand I could simply buy another vag sensor with the same p/n but it transpired (to my cost) there are further p/n letters or numbers that aren't printed on the sensor label - the airbag module and sensors all need to have the same 'invisible' code. There's also a danger that a 2nd hand one has already been affected by water ingress. There's no visible signs whether the sensor is faulty or not. My sensor would be ok for a few days, then it would trigger the warning light on the dash again. Because the passenger airbag won't deploy in an accident with a faulty sensor I decided my passengers safety is worth more than £100-ish, and I bought a new one from Lister's (who were very helpful and knowledgeable) and it arrived the next day.
