Got in the car to go to work this morning & got a 'bing' from the car with a nice message saying airbag fault. The airbag light is also on constantly. The car is out of warranty so does anyone have any idea if this is going to be expensive? It couldnt have come at a worse time!

Had this on my 2007 FR TDI about 18 months ago. Turned out to be the wires in the multiplug for the sensor below the passenger seat had a loose connection. The SEAT fix was to rewire it. I'm not sure if the airbags had to be re-coded afterwards however, with something like this I'd be straight to the dealers as you never know when you may need them!

Worth getting sorted as soon as.

A friend had an airbag fault on his MK5 Golf GTI and according to what the dealer told him, if the airbag light is lit then the whole system is disabled (ironically) as a safety measure, so no airbags will deploy in a crash.

I guess with a dual-stage airbag deployment taking things into account like seat and steering column position etc., it could potentially do more harm than good if there was a fault with the system.

Its booked in for Monday so fingers crossed its cheap. Im hoping its just the wiring as my dad used it the day before the light came on & moved the seat up & forwards.

I had my car back 5 times at the dealer for this problem.

Actual pain in the arse as all they kept doing was unplugging the connector to the seat and putting it back in then resetting the warning light. So couple days later the thing would loosen off and id be back to square one.

I've just got an airbag fault appear as well:

01217 - Side Airbag Igniter; Front Driver Side (N199): Upper Limit Exceeded

Does anyone know where the wiring and connections are accessed for this, so i can check to see if its just a loose connection or something?!

Thanks

Its under the passenger seat.

They tried to tell me its due to the seat being slid back and u shouldnt really do that.

Didnt know only midgets were supposed to be passengers in leons

Good news. I took it into my local garage today (not a seat dealer but VAG specialists) & they reckon its the connector under the drivers seat. They cleaned up the connectors & cleared the fault code so fingers crossed. They also said if it comes back on within a month they will replace the connector (obviously at my cost) but wont charge a diagnostic fee. Only cost about £44 so not too bad.

After having removed my front seats (which have airbags) in order to install custom-made leather, the airbag sensor error popped on the screen, and I paid around 10 euros at the dealership to have it fixed.

ill try the disconnect and clean first see if it goes before i start cutting wires
