Could possibly be VNT veins in turbo, if I'm correct they can get blocked up, also check actuator is working, if stuck open you get no boost. Even though you can hear turbo spin up.

I'd take a guess at the common problem of sticky veins in the turbo for the loss of boost but the melting never heard of it

If veins stuck or blocked then not much fresh cool air will be drawn through turbo, which only leaves high volume of exhaust gasses flowing through turbo, hence turbo will get extremely hot. Like my mates Ibiza FR had blocked filter which had big bulge from suction of turbo and melted turbo cartridge shaft allowing exhaust spindle to come away and block exhaust. Making engine run on 80% exhaust fumes. So a melted plastic intake pipe is expected as turbo reaches ridiculously hot temperatures. From lack of fresh cool air, as the intake is it only form of cooling. Turbos are the hottest part of an engine.

Be worth removing rocker cover and check for sludge build up from oil getting to hot and caramelizing in engine.... also air filter.

Just thought as I'm in the throes of taking my turbo off... have you checked that the heat shield is there between the corner of the manifold and the air pipe?
