Air intake behind front grill..?

Hi,

Whilst trying to find a good place for a cold air feed to my open cone I came across what seems to be an air intake behind the front grill on the passenger side. It looks like a pipe can connect to it to aid cold air flow into the engine bay.

Does anyone know whether there is a SEAT part for this? Has anyone any ideas how this could be incorporated into a cold air feed or done it themselves?

Yeah theres a SEAT part, its either the PD130 intake or the PD160 intake that clips on there, obviously from the diesel engines. I think the 1.8t's have them too.

The PD160 intake is obviously the wider one, and I think thats about £70-80 or something from the stealers.

Seems a bit steep for what's basically a piece of plastic ducting! Can the section that the hose would attach to be removed? Just thinking maybe a standard piece of circular plastic ducting could be attached behind that grill piece and then ran to the cone at the back of the engine bay.

It is expensive. Just make your own up with ducting from ebay or something! Simples.

yeah I think that's the route I'm going to go down this weekend! Any one have any pics/tips on building a pretty simple air feed, mounting it either behind the grill next to the front badge or possibly lower, near to the fog light?

The engine bays are pretty crampt on the Mk4 Ibiza (unless you have a 1.2) The best route would be from that OEM intake point.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I think a trip to B&Q to get some plastic ducting is on the cards

As regards mounting the hose, are there any ideal places that the hose could be attached? Just a bit concerned the hose won't be very secure if it's only attached at the front grill and left loose as it goes to the back of the engine bay!

I think it will become obvious once you start to poke around in the engine bay!
