Hmmm like me,, my Air Box is just sitting in the garage, need the motivation to do it though. Im now at a cross roads with my engine, Do i go full hog at Bling, The Inlet mani and rocker cover will be polished, strut brace to be polished, seems going backwards putting the standard air box in, the Ram Air makes the bay look tatty in my opinion.

Yeah - I agree. I think the airbox does look neater.

the old modded airbox... cant go wrong with it!

took me ages to smooth it! about 4hrs for just the bottom half!

glad to see my thread is still helping ppl... just checked and edited it slightly (pics).

i think the modded airbox is the best for VFM/performance BUT it certainly does not make any sound improvements... ie. if u want to hear ur DV dont go down the modded airbox rute! get an open cone filter with heat shield (jabba) or BMC CDA/dynatwist/RAM air etc.

Just put a Jetex panel filter in mine £25 from Venom Motorsport. Jetex Catback system to be fitted Monday, now that I have Cupra front pipe instead of the TT one they sent originally!

The Jetex one is a lot less restrictive looking than the standard filter and I think seems to make a little difference. You will need to take a hoover to car to vac the dried leaf litter out of the bottom half of the airbox, which I think may be the cause of a whizzing noise I used to get on start up as the leaves get sucked into the filter.

The easiest way to smooth the airbox, I think, is to take a stanley knife and score along the corner of each rib, along it's full length, then grab the rib with a pair of pliers, wiggle it (just a little bit) and it'll snap off.

Still some stragglers to cut/clean/sand but it works a treat, and very quickly.
