air filter or induction

The way i see it is that it depends on your budget, if you want to do it quite cheaply get a panel filter and smooth your airbox (do a search on smoothing it) with a larger air feed to the airbox.

Alternitively if you want to spend a bit more get an induction kit, enclosed or ones with heat shields are generally better to stop it drawing in hot air.

Have a search for a few different topics and see what suits your needs.

sorry newbee

That's OK mate, just a bit of banter... I took the panel filter option with smoothed air box and have been really pleased the results. The car is smoother and cleaner pulling through the revs. The DV is still quite and I want a little more noise, this should go up after a remap, but if it doesn't I'll go CIA.

I did the same. Green panel filter from Badger5 (Forum Sponsor )
and a smoothed air box.
Car feels good with the mod. I bought a second hand air box to smooth as I want to return the car to stock when I eventually sell it.
I've not logged it yet with my VAG-COM but I'll give it a go at some point
(as I have my original I can do before/after comparison)

Cheers,
Steve

Only going to take it (the airbox) out so I can sell it to someone else who wants one...... ;)

Defected!
Green Cotton panel filter with smoothed airbox works for me. Do the research on induction kits before you buy as some can suffer from heat soak without the correct shielding and some types of filters can be over oiled which can effect the MAF.
