air con problem

If i turn my air con on whilst driving it seems to work fine. Problem is when i start the car again, if i turn the air con off the air that comes through stinks, it is kind of like a damp smell. Also if it is set to heat the window it creates a strange mist on the window, with a very faint hint of blue through it and it takes ages to de-mist my window. Has any1 ever experienced this/know what is wrong?

yep dead common its condensation in the cold pipes after you park it up. the smell is the mould growing in the damp pipes. halfrauds do cleaning stuff for it. otherwise just blast it on full hot temp for some time.

I tried the Halfords Air Con Cleaner treatment, think it was about a tenner, followed the instructions and the car was great for about a month, however the smell is slowly returning so may need another treatment as i figure after 30k it has probably never been done until i did it the first time.............

And mine recently, like Stew said blast it on full cold for a while and it cures it.

how long would i need to blast on full hot for a clean? any idea how effective this is?

mine smells a bit musty sometimes, mines on 26k

the way i did mine, despite working for halfords, lol, was to but a kettle in the passenger foot well, with the seat all the way back, A/C on full, and re-circ via the vents, i kept it boiling for a good 10-15mins (lock the button down and keep re filling now and again, afteri took it out, kept it running for another 10 or so mins on fresh air, and not smelt owt since, plus it saves me the 10er, minus the discount.
