Looking At Some Aftermarket Wheels For The Summer & To Add Some Better Tyres To, The OEM Wheels are 8.0j et40 and the aftermarket ones I’ve been looking at are 8.5j et45, Will they fit without issues?? Also has anyone upgraded to 20’s?

I am planning to get 20s for summer.

A fellow Formentor owner that owns a wheel and tyre business tells me the ideal fitment is 20" 9J ET35 with 245/35R20 tyres.

He says he tried loads of different combos and this is what worked better.

Also, his car was lowered on 50mm H&R springs, which IMHO looks great but will affect the comfort and handling due to being a huge drop.

You can check out relative fitments here https://willtheyfit.com/ and/or here https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/.

More info here on rims for each vehicle type https://www.wheel-size.com/size/audi/q5/2019/

From an insurance viewpoint, you should tell your insurancve company that you're changing - it counts as a modification. It's also advisable (and in some countries in the EU, mandatory to remaining insured) that you only fit wheels and tyres that the vehicle has been homologated with by the manufacturer - that'll be one of the sizes listed on the door pillar. Of course you can choose to ignore all that, and in the UK are unlikely to have any trouble as long as the wheels and tyres are kept in good nick. with a 20" rim you'll be looking at 40psi plus - it's going to be a pretty firm ride - I have them on my Ateca with the adjustable suspension.

Oddly, when looking for winter rims, I found out my car, the Cupra Ateca Limited Edition, with Brembo's, is only homologated for the 8jx20 rim - no others are listed. I just checked other Atecas and chose a 19" rim (smallest that will fit over the Brembos - I fitted Audi Q5 R8 ones) and a 19" tyre to suit that is fitted to other spec Atecas.

ETA, don't forget to check the wheel bolts required - many aftermarket wheels use conical head bolts as opposed to the VAG standard hemispherical head bolts.

Hi.
Hopefully you won't but if you do have any issues with insurance for a change of wheels then please feel free to drop me a line.

Dan.

Hi guys! My car came with 245/45/R18 96W summer tires, but I want to change them for all season tires. I've found a very good deal on Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, but they are 245/45/R18 100Y XL. Is the XL grade going to affect the car ride or affect the suspension? Should I get them?...or should I stick to 96W rating?

Thanks

TBH, i do prefer the original wheels that came with that variant. But if your happy that's all that matters.

I’m planning to buy new wheels for the summer.
I was considering getting some 19-inch ones, for example these:
https://velonity.com/damina-perform...rive-140kw-190-ps/detail-252937080-252937080/

The factory specifications for tires/wheels on the Formentor are 245/40 R19 19x8 ET40. The wheels I’m planning to buy are 8.5x19 ET35. Would this cause any issues? If not, what tire size would be best? Still 245/40?
