Love my FR to bitz but the sterio is doing my head in... Seemingly there is a common fault with the cd player which mine has developed twice... When I been drivin from stirling to tidworth when it gets hot it stops playing and develops an error... Thank god for the aux and the ipod!! Was just wondering what other sterios fit in to my FR ... HELP!!

Anything will fit with the right fascia adaptor.

You can get either a double din adaptor to fit a big unit with a screen...

Something like this is what I'd recommend...

A proper fully featured H/U that has DVD playback on the 5.8" screen so you can watch films
Has 3 Pre-outs to add amps later
Does iPod control (but you'll need an extra cable for that)
Has full EQ so you set crossover points etc at the H/U & that means if you want to run an active front end you wont need external EQ's as well
It's a bargain as well for the money

Or if you don't want to go that mental you can add one of these to the above Fascia adpator & make it a single din slot...

It's pretty good as well & has most of the features the Double Din unit does but comes with all the USB cables to use your iPod straight away.

If it was me though I'd spend the money on the Double Din unit, it really is everything you could ever need for a H/U & the SQ on Pioneer is always pretty good so you won't be sorry

I'm also currently looking to change my head unit, but a bit stuck with options:

1) an upgraded vw unit, e.g rcd510

2) cheapy chinese touch screen £110-£175

3) spend a little more and get a good, branded head unit e.g kenwood, pioneer, JVC. Around £250.

I'm thinking i'd be better spending more and getting one i know will be good. Chinese one will probably break after a couple of months, or will be terrible. And the VW one may just not have enough difference over the standard unit in my FL leon.

Definitely spend the money on a proper unit.

The Chinese one's may not even pick up radio properly...I had an imported US CD player about 15 years ago because it was WAY cheaper then the equivelant UK spec but it did Radio at different Mhz steps so I couldn't tune a bloody thing in, good job I only used it for CD's

The thing with spending the money on the named stereos (especially the Double Din Pioneer I linked above) is that while you might not be in the mood for a full on ICE install now it will be nice to have the upgradability if the bug bites later on & 3 Pre-outs will be a god send I can tell you.
So while you might spend more now the savings later will be worth the outlay

I bought a single DIN Sony unit from Halfords plus adapter kit from EBay and surround from my local dealer. Does Bluetooth, music and voice profiles, USB in on the front with iPod access and 3.5" line in, reasonable signal, not quite as good as stock, overall very pleased for less than £200.

Only thing was getting the stock stereo out was a complete git!

Lol my Chinese double din system plays the radio just fine with great reception. Guess what? It even has Uk sat navigation software
For 200 - 300 quid they are pretty good, you just need to do your research as with any product
It also looks excellent

Cheers I'm gna hav a look at all the links ... But mine isn't the full head unit the volume button and sum other buttons are seperate from the sterio.... Will need to get seat to get me a new bit ordered I think!! Just want rid of the one that's in looks cheppy !

yes fititng was easy with the right adaptors and steering wheel controls work also. Sounds really good.

Hi all,

Sorry to bring this up from years of no posts. I am currently looking for a double din for my 58 plate cupra with GPS being the main thing. I've come across a product in HK and obviously due to the cost very wary.

G2110 6.2" Double Din Android 4.2.2 OS Car DVD Player GPS SAT NAV L2 Radio Audio (As i'm not allowed to post sites, i've posted the description)

Can anyone who is slightly in the know highlight any flaws of this model?

Hi,

I don't have any personal experience of the Chinese unit, some have had mix results. I would say get a known brand, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for, especially if you only need gps. The new Pioneer units, about 2-3 years old will also display climate control and parking sensor displays on the unit with the right canbus adaptor, and sound really good, can be had for about £400. if you are not worried about that, you can get older Pioneers, Alpines, JVC, and Kenwwod, etc for less, anywhere from £200 and up depending on the features you want.
