have had couple of Seats in the past, and had Audi for last 3 years,

due to need for much bigger vehicle, am considering Alhambra as urgent replacement for my A4 quattro.

Can anyone give me heads up info on what to look for specifically/any problem areas/faults/signs to stick clear of????

not got much budget, so looking for under £4k, must be diesel, preferably SE spec

have seen a few advertised, not over fussed on colour (though the dark red seems favourable)

thanks in advance for any assistance

out of sheer coincidence, we are contemplating selling ours as its too big for our present needs! its a 1.9pd SE (02) with 71k on the clock - in silver though. its also just had a full service including timing belt change (complete with new tensioner, water pump etc). let me know if you would be interested.

issues I have had to date is the rear electric window stop working (simple fix, cable snapped inside the door due to opening and closing motion of the door) and the rear winder for the spare wheel got tangled as a garage used an air gun to wind it up. Again, simple fix. just had to open the housing and re-wind the cable. bar that - its been rock solid.

wow! when you said 'urgent' you sure did mean it!

following my recent disaster (snapped timing belt) I would highly recommend you check yours. the cover over it has two clips which you can pop open by hand and this will let you are the physical condition of the belt.

only other minor annoyance is that they seem to have an insatiable appetite for drop links! or maybe its just due to the fact that our local council thinks that speed bumps are the universal solution to all the worlds problems and therefore install them at any opportunity!

hope you enjoy it and have many trouble free miles ahead.

Not sure what year your new purchase is, nor which models it affects, but something to check the service history for is the RH driveshaft.
This is actually the small shaft that goes into the diff, but then connects to the RHF driveshaft. On 1.9 diesels, they are prone to wear, which slowly strips the splines in the diff.
As we found out, when it finally goes, you lose all drive and gain a lot of noise when trying to pull away. Not many warranty companies cover this fault and I understand it's around 80,000miles that they can fail.
Not a cheap job, but worth doing, as I figure it could always go on the way to your summer holiday...
