Will the mast really come out from the base by pulling it ??? the tip came off mine and the daler sold me a new mast for £3 ish they then said I have to get a new base as well £10 ish and £90 + to ft the thing £ 130 quid for a £3 aeriel

They'd suggest a new base if u think ur reception is bad, purely as its the base thats probably faulty...
Ok so got mine today. Got the original one off without too much hassle (cut myself doing it; fnck knows how mind). Anyway, the thread is defo much shorter and I can't get it to meet up with the base thread... no matter how much pressure I put down on it. Any ideas or is it a "never gonna happen"? So, if I cut the end off the standard ariel (to thus make the aerial smaller and very similar to the Type R I have) and apply a blob of paint to it (like someone did [sorry, can't remeber who]), is the reception worse? I personally would've thought so, but dunno.
Having said all that, I might just try and cut the stubby one I've got so that the thread catches...
