Hello all, I'm currently deliberaating over the choice of my new car. I've test driven various cars over the past few months, scooby,s2000 and and Audi S3 but have my first test of a Leon Cupra R 225 on Sunday.

I have very high expectations and hope its the car I'll buy, as its best for the money and comes loaded with stuff.

Any recomendations on what to look for and what to expect. I hope to be writing back soon with my new pride and joy!:help:

dodgy idle and or holding back through the revs points to MAF sensor, check if its had the coils changed as there was a faulty batch although this could be just related to the mk1's

great car, shame there's no 4wd option though. I drive a leon cupra (not cupra r) 180 bhp, been remapped to around 210 - and unless the road is bone dry, the power is lost through spinning wheels! Cost comes into it of course, and you'll have practically the same car in terms of engine, gearbox, interior (excl. leather) as the S3, but without 4wd. Thousands cheaper and far lower mileage models available too.

I'm not a fan of the look of scooby's - but an sti type UK prodrive would be awesome in performance (4wd, cooling water jets for turbo, huge intercooler, sports cat, larger bore downpipe + xorst etc, . Std WRX is almost pointless though. Cupra R is slower off the mark due to traction, but once it's going will beat a WRX. Cupra R looks best also, imo.

Cheers Steve,

The only prob with judging wether or not its holding back on the revs is my inexperience in the model, i've never driven one before so have no point of comparison. Plan was to get a 2003/04 model

I definately agree about the wrx, I drove a bug eyed version and was majorly dissapointed, my brother has a 2.0t saab aero and it was far better (and thats saying something).

Is there much difference in the pre 2003 210 cupra R and the newer 225appart from power figures, does the performance differ much??
