Adding hydraulic bonnet struts to the Formentor

Did someone source the struts from elsewhere? Years ago I bought cheap replacement and they were also too stiff.
Can you remove the prop afterwards to really look like a proper OEM?
The prop is quite easily removed; you just need to jiggle the curved end through the gromet at the right angle. But like @EuKiwi I'm leaving mine in place for the time being.

Hey all,

Just thought I'd let you know that you can add these very easily to the Formentor, as the threaded fitment is there and ready, and covered by a sticker for the mount. Just simply buy this set:

And then follow the very easy guide as per this page (in German, but the images are enough). Very easy - took me literally less than 5 minutes:

Size 12 (lower mount) and size 13 (upper mount) ring spanners needed, and that's it.
Not sure if the top mount should go like on the how to link ,all the ones ive looked at so far go with the strut at the top facing inwards not outwards...anyone tried this way around.

After finding this thread I bought a set yesterday on Amazon and they were delivered today. Now fitted, 10 minute job, really happy with them after being used to them on my previous car. Find it hard to believe they're not fitted as standard for the small extra cost!

Looks good.

Did you just order the ones from the first page link or some other ones as the name looks different? Just checking before I order some. :)

I was looking at the Jingling ones too...about 25% cheaper plus a variety of finishes. Can you let us know how they do?

Yes they're a good bit cheaper. I didn't fancy any of the carbon fibre look ones so stuck with the standard black ones. I noticed someone saying the LFOTTP ones were a bit 'enthusiastic', well obviously I can't compare directly but these seem OK to me. Yes you have to lift the bonnet 10 to 12" before the struts take over to open the bonnet fully but they do dampen the final bit of opening though. When closing you can feel resistance until the bonnet is back down to about the 12" mark and then it will slam shut. I keep hold of it until about 6" away an drop it down from there.

Thanks for the link I ordered some and they arrived this afternoon. (y)

Did you get the below brackets? Not sure what they are for as they're not shown in the instructions.

Yep, mine came with all those parts too. Didn't use the long brackets or the 2 larger threaded ball thingys. I'm guessing they're there for same reason as Deano said.

Thanks both, I stupidly posted before going and looking at the car. I just did and it literally took me 10 minutes and it was obvious when you were actually looking at it. :clown:

I'm much happier now, especially for only £30. (y)

Next day on Amazon Prime but they only had a couple left when I ordered. Looks like they're waiting stock at the mo.
