Accelerator Pedal doesn't come all the way back up

Hi Guys,

I've already done a search but couldn't really find anyone with the same issue (plenty of revs rising when clutch dipped but not this).

The car holds revs and if i've pressed the pedal in quite far but stopped before the revs get high, when I dip the clutch the revs go very high. Also if I accelerate reasonably hard then let off the car will continue accelerating or at least hold it's speed, which has scared me a couple of times so far!!

When driving normally it's not so much of a problem as I just dip the clutch but whenever I change gear or come to a stop the engine is revving anywhere between 1500-2500 so makes me look like I cant drive properly! lol. If I put my foot under the pedal and lift it up there is a small amount of movement and the revs always settle back down to 800 as per the norm.

Now, in my head I imagine the spring (or whatever) inside the pedal has broke, or something inside has broke, so wondering what else may be wrong as I could do without spending £100+ for a new pedal right now!

Cheers.

might not be the throttle peddle, could be the clutch peddle switch which is knackered. Cheap as chips to buy new and might be worth trying first.

I'd start by checking the pedal linkages first, to see if anything was impeding them (carpet rucked up, stray sweet wrapper, nesting badger, you know the sort of thing).

Then try lubricating the pivot.

Hi guys, it's defo the pedal. nothing in the way etc. it even got to the point where it would stick at full throttle if i pressed it that far!! have sprayed some lube around the pivot and it's stopped it sticking down but still wont return all the way up (revs stay 1500-2000) so i've got a new pedal £80 from SEAT.

noticed it's only 3 bolts and a plug so imagined it's only a 5 min job, but can I access the top bolts? Can i feck! need to remove the lower dash which i'm gunna have a go at this weekend using the below guide. hopefully report back with some good news on monday!

might take the old pedal apart also as it may just need cleaning up but i've a feeling I broke something when flooring it in anger up a hill one day lol
