Can anyone recommend somewhere reputable where i can purchase both front ABS wheel sensors for a mk1 leon 1.8 20vt sport, 2000 reg.

Have looked at various sites but there seems to be a big difference in prices from 9.99 upto 37.00, would like to keep away from dealer prices if possible, and does it matter what brand i buy? thanks.

Were the Ebay ones branded? VAG cars suffer enough from electrical gremlins, I wouldn't want to go too cheap with sensors and stuff. If they're Bosch or similar then fair enough.

I got one from GSF a while back can't remember the price but it's been a year and no problems ;)

This is what i was mainly bothered about, always seems suss when there so cheap and the problems i have had lately i can do without anymore.

GSF seems the place to shop, thanks guys, anyone know how hard they are to fit :D

No they weren't branded. Inside is a coil of wire and a magnet, not a massive amount to go wrong, IMHO

You may have a point. So far the sensor has done one trackday only. I guess the worst scenario is the flashy light again

Oh yeah, you might have paid a fifth of normal price and have to replace it three times. You're still in the money if you can do the work yourself. And if you already have a spare then all the better!

I guess coilpacks are a bit more expensive, so buying cheap doesn't work out as sensible as something like an ABS sensor.

Some of the VAG parts pricing belief. The jap stuff is worse, but I have walked out of my VW dealers laughing on more than one occasion. Pity the average punter who 'trusts' the dealer to fix the car 'whatever'.

Okay so i have looked at both sensors and have a slight problem, front right sensor seems close to the abs ring could get a 0.20mm feeler guage down between but nothing else.

The front left sensor seems miles away from the abs ring maybe 4mm away, this cannot be normal, nothing looks damaged.

Also the star bolts holding them on are stupidly tight, any easy way to get them off, i have sprayed wd40 to try and ease it overnight.

Car has been a right pain lately, pulls to the left (tracking, balancing all been done) and feels real sluggish (could be calipers as wheels will rotate but stop quickly).

Any ideas.........

These probes (I think) produce a varying amplitude signal that relies on the flux linkage variation between tooth and gap. This phenomena only only works when a small gap exists over a tooth and 4mm is probably too large a gap. It will electrically look like a gap (tooth) and a large(r) gap and produce no Ac output, and no signal

The sensor has a small magnet on the end which at 4mm away cannot be working optimally, that could explain why i am getting brake judder, funny clicky noise and abs and ecs lights coming on when i brake gently.

Can faulty abs make a car pull to one side and feel sluggish?

Does anyone know the size of the bolt holding the ABS sensor on, mine are completely corroded and need replacing, going to have to smash them off though as they are stripped.

Heard they may be M6 bolts but not sure if this is right and what length they need to be. thanks.

Should drill out, relatively soft I would imagine. Tapping size for m6 is 5mm (ie M6*1)
