Its really hard to say unless I can see the full code. First guess would be one of the sensors for the ABS.

Is there any chance you could post up the error code/s?

If you are near me, I could plug in and give you a better idea of what the problem is?

I'll see if i can find out the fault code, i've been told it could be the main abs unit in the engine bay, could it likely be that? Thanks

It could be but it could be anything really and I just know that ABS sensors are pretty common and are open to the elements!

That would be my first guess but its impossible to know without that code really.

Hi the two codes are P1649 AND 01130, its something to do with the abs not connecting with the car ecu.

This is when there is no communication between the ABS controller and the ECU.

Have a look at the fuses and wiring that sit on top of the battery. One of the big fuses is for the ABS.

I worked on an S3 with this same fault and it was after a battery change. It had been bodged up and the terminations on the top of the battery had been broken.

If this all looks ok and a continuity test proves a good connection in that area, I would agree with Dave above, the controller might be faulty.

Hope this helps....

I would double check all the wiring to the ABS controller, make sure there isn't a break in the circuit.

There is also a fuse in the end of the dash for the ABS, might be worth trying that too.

Not sure of the best place to get a controller.....

This morning I fitted the unit to fix my slow fan speed problem mentioned in this thread:

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=137571&highlight=slow+fan+speed+fix&page=4

My fans now work perfectly so thats great however, on my drive home from my dads I experienced the problem from this thread where my traction control and abs lights came on and the handbrake light started flashing.

I pulled over and switched the engine off, checking around the engine bay and what not, when I turned the engine back on the lights stayed off. Drove home nice and easy and at one point the traction control light flashed on then off again but that was it. Checked with vag com and got loads of error codes all related to ABS:

18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30: Voltage too Low
P1602 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
18057 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from ABS Controller
P1649 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
00003 - Control Module
014 - Defective - Intermittent
00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
00813 - Sensor 2 for Brake Pressure (G214)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent
01316 - ABS Control Module
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent
01316 - ABS Control Module
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent

I have checked the fuses on top of my battery and they all look perfect. Does anyone have any thoughts on what may be wrong? Could this simply be the result of fiddling around with the battery? Can anyone tell me where the ABS control module is? Any help greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking about just clearing the codes and seeing if they come back, any thoughts guys?

Cheers,

Jon

Been out for another drive and the traction control light came on once or twice (I wasn't losing traction because I was driving VERY carefully).

Lights also seemed to be flickering a bit, going to check the earths tomorrow. :(

I forgot to mention, a short while before the big lights on episode earlier I heard a thump from under the bonnet, a bit like a bird hitting the windscreen, not super loud but certainly noticeable.

On my second drive (after clearing the fault codes) I heard a double thump like the first one.

WTF could that be????

Checked the main earth lead this morning and we had forgotten to tighten it completely!

Hopefully should fix all the problems. :)
