A question about fitting a temp sender / coolant sensor

As per my other recent post, I had the good ol' coolant warning light come on the other day despite the car being nicely topped up. The warning light was fairly intermittant and inconsistent so I had the sensor changed and all was good.

Until the next day when it came back on.

I checked the coolant level again and it was.... empty. That might explain it. I've since filled it up and everything is fine, but it makes me wonder how it got so empty so quickly?

So.... can anybody tell me if there is any need to empty the coolant from the bottle as part of fitting the new sensor? Or do you need to remove anything that, if not refitted correctly, could allow the bottle to empty itself?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Cheers

Rob

That's the obvious first thought, but it seems too much of a coincidence that it's only happened after the untrained chimps pretending to be engineers at Seat got their monkey paws on it.

True! Hire any people on the street nowa days.
I recommend you you refill it and check where it leaking from.
Why did you car go in to seat for?

I went in their for convenience. I phoned for a price for the part only and they said fitting wouldn't cost much (total price around £50) so as it was a simple job, but one I could do without doing myself, I let them do it all. Stoopid idea.

Got a feeling the part they fitted is cause of the leak! Unless they forgot to refill the bottle after they fitted the new part

That's why I was asking, as I don't know if the part fitted could cause a leak or if the bottle needs to be emptied before fitting. Hence the original post asking those exact questions :)
