The gearbox ratio's will also effect the top speed of the car and what speed at each gear!

You put a 1.4 box onto your 1.6 I'm guessing then the 1.4 box is a much shorter ratio'd box compared to the 1.6...... if that is the case then what is the top speed of a 1.4?

For example with my old final drive on my box I would do 70 in 2nd, 90 in 3rd now with the shorter FD I'm doing 60 in 2nd and just hitting 80 in 3rd.

5800rpm on an 085 g/b for a 1.4 is 118mph

it's not hitting the rev limiter in 5th, it's just that it's a turd / needs some maintainance

Looking at the Parkers website, the 1.6 should be capable of 105mph while the 1.4 will reach 98mph.

Perhaps they put a 1.0 engine in, top speed is 86-90 (depending on which version); this would probably see an indicated 93 on the speedo ;)

don't forget the wheel/tyre size could be doing more but reading less

never know 'til you get a ticket for 110mph showing 93 on speedo :p

thanks guys, i thought the underfueling problem could be the most plausable cause, when i get some money and time i will find the 1.6 ecu (with all the locksets so no recoding is needed) then will let you all know.

that vbox looks good only theres no price on it lol

I was looking for something else that kind of looks like a sat nav and sits in your windscreen but you can set it to tell you various different stats on your car....but i couldnt find it.

Do Bigger Wheels Really Make That Much Of A Difference? As I have 19s on it, but ive been through a 40 camera at 41mph and it didnt flash, so im sure i must be doin aroud 40 or is it just on top end or something?

Thats probably about right, my old 1.4 that was in tip top nick and a veternan motorway machine used to read 110mph, allowing 10% for the speedo to be out and your near as makes no difference at that figure.

yeah thats what mine reads, but i wanna get a road angel which records the real speed that your going

Yeah, they will. Smaller wheels also make the same differewnce. SMall = faster acceleration. Bigger = slower acceleration.

I'm guesssing at 40 you were prob.. 35?? Unless it;s the other way round. Can't be bothered to figure it out atm.

Yes smaller wheels allow for faster acceleration, however you suffer for grip.

Going an inch bigger on say a leon cupra isnt going to make a massive difference to the acceleration, but it may put the speedo out by 1-2mph

search online for 'tyre calculator', there's a few out there that will tell you how much difference it makes. just put in the old and new tyre sizes.

anyone know if the old oil and filter and the fuel filter will make a big difference?

also how many revs are you doing at top speed?
