Good morning all, PLEASE HELP!!! i have purchased a Seat Ibiza 1997 2.0 8v Gti (agg) however.... the previous owner has put a MK2 Golf 8v Gearbox onto it!! the two problems are..... Firstly! you cannot select reverse! if you disconnect the linkage then you can select reverse easily at the gearbox! but when you re-connect the linkage and try reverse it goes into 1st !! i have tried and tried to re-align but to no avail!! Secondly.... the clutch pedal is really low! the pedal is only about 2" off the floor?? Any help would be really appreciated!! Thanks guys.

The clutch pedal being really low is an easy one, pedal box has gone.

Search the forum for it theres loads of information about it.

the 8v box's, O2Os should all fit each other, you might have a problem with the gear shift unit its self, pull the leather gaitor up and have a look at it, i have a unit which had a broken part and funnily enough it wouldnt select reverse.

pedal low may just be a clutch or cable, but i certainly wouldnt rule out the pedal box.

Sorry to go off topic, I'm in a odd mood today so please forgive me :)

Why is your name martin16v and you drive a 8v?? :D

And back on topic, "Chrisdaman" fitted a Mk2 Golf 8v box to his 16v and had to change the clutch because it's got smaller splines. Could be something else to look at.

wish i had an 8v box on my 16v, rod change feels alot better and gave more reassurance when really throwing it through the gears.

lift the gaitor up, i cant remember what it was but something had snapped at the foot of the selector, it was pretty obvious when i saw it. it would push downward but the broken part stopped it going across the gate.
