60k service

Afternoon

My baby will soon be needing a 60k service which i understand requires a cam belt change

Now, i don't want to pay dealer prices for this but know i need to have the service done at the dealer to get the book stamped. Could i get the cam belt fitted elsewhere? Any of you had this done??

i've got mine leon booked in for the 60k service next tuesday. I'm going to a VAG specialist (not a SEAT dealer) due to price and the fact that they do a thorough (spelling?) job, and do it properly.

SEAT quoted me about £800 all in for 60k service. I'm paying about £440 ISH at the VAG specialist, and they are doing a few extra bits on the service for me like gearbox oil change etc.... Also doing some other modifications at the same time, but thats a different matter

The std service is about £200 ish - thats spark plugs, oil etc. Then you've got cambelt, water pump, tensioner, anti-freeze etc and then the labour at £65/hr ish from ur friendly dealer. Would take them most of the day, so i'll let you add that lot up...

60,000 is when they start to inspect the cambelt. it doesnt often need chaging till 80-120,000.

although if its remapped the interval should be shortened really.

also if its over 5 years old i believe.

So if i phone my local dealer (Stoneacre, Peterborough) and said i wanted a 60k service would they include the cambelt in the quote wether i need one or not

Also i see in the other post by pabs a water pump is mentioned, is this standard also at 60k as it doesn't mention it in the service shedule book you get with the car. As i'm probably going to keep the car i may get it done locally at a garage i trust and not bother about the 'Seat' stamp in my book!!!

cambelt isnt a requirement of a service, however they advise you change it at 72,000 miles

dealer charges about £250+vat for cambelt change

PABS i dont know what dealer your near but they are having a laugh, £200 to change spark plugs, oil, and all filters??? wtf? my dealer does all that for about a ton

The VW service schedule says to change cambelt at 120k, but check from 60k onwards at 10k intervals, or similar anyway. (Thats what I've seen)

My 50k service would have cost £198 from a dealer - seeing as thats a bog standard service that would be the charge for a 60k as well - then add cambelt, waterpump etc on top... that already makes £450+VAT..

When i was in the southampton dealer i heard them quote £600+vat for a 60k service..., so the figures above must vary hugely.

At £65/hr labour, that leaves £35 for plugs, filters, oil and all parts, + a very quick service.
You've got an awesome dealer there mate. Seeing as oil would be £30 odd alone, and plugs would be around £50...


Cambelt, water pump, tensioner, anti-freeze, extra few hours labour.... maths may not be a strong point of mine but i can get a rough figure...

by the way, i highly recommend getting waterpump/tensioner done at same time as cambelt - purely to save on labour costs, as its much quicker to replace these when doing the other bits.

Water pumps are prone to failure - don't NEED replacing but most people do. (and change them for metal/brass impellar versions not the plastic ones that break easily)

I have just had my 60,000 mile Service, Cambelt, Tensioners and Water Pump changed (recommended at the same time because the plastic ones are not very good and the labour to do a WaCambelt is the same to do a Water Pump so best to do it at the same time)

Is your car under Warranty?

I went to a VW Specialist (they both used to work at Colbournes) and they still sign my book for me

I would suggest getting a Water Pump that has a Brass Impeller or a Cast Iron Impeller as the plastic ones are known to fail

I was quoted with SEAT that the 60,000 mile Service, Cambelt, Tensioner and Water Pump would come to about £457

I got it done at a VW Specialist as i said in post #11 and it has come to £405

just noticed a problem in my quote from SEAT.... plugs wouldnt be changed at 60k would they, as they use the NGK ones that are changed every 40k?

So thats a fair chunk off the bill, but I'm going elsewhere anyway, and as said above they still stamp the book

Yes, plugs at 40K.
60K is same as a 20K as far as service is concerned - oil / oil filter / pollen filter and checks

I never met a stealer that wouldnt claim it needed changing, or could do with it, after doing the check at that interval.

Try NVS - find them on the web, i know they can do it, as I asked. Cant remember the price.

NVS seem like a high quality mobile mechanic operation. Not sure how far they cover though.

Mine has had the 50k service done from the dealer when i brought it. What gets done at 50k then?? Just the oil?? I'm confused!!!!!!!!!!
