I've just been quoted £200 for a 20K service (which includes engine flush), and I'd guess the 40K is similar, maybe with the addition of brake fluid change, but you could do that yourself probably.

Don't forget you'll need a new cambelt at 40k.
No you don't; the dealers will try and convince you that you do, but it's not scheduled until about 60k I think.
Funnily enough my dealers stopped trying to persuade me I needed a cambelt at 40k, when I pointed out I was on the maintenance contract and they wouldn't pay for it until scheduled....

130 bhp (ASZ) diesel has a 60,000 mile cambelt interval.

On a 40k service you are looking @

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Fuel Filter
Inspection

Brake fluid is due at two years (not mileage dependant)

And remember your car does not have to go to a SEAT dealer to have the work done. As long as the garage carries out the service to manufacturers guidelines using parts made in the EC and they are VAT registered its all gravy.

Phoned up to book mine in today and was quoted the following:
Service - £195
Brake fluid - £65

That's before they point out I need new pads, new discs and new tyres :(

Also to be fixed under warranty: the passanger door handle (have to wrench the door open); the speedo isn't smooth, it speeds up and down and the MAF is dodgy - bloke on the phone didn't know what a MAF was :fool:so it's almost guaranteed to be perfect under inspection.

Oh, and the excess on the courtesy car is £2500 :-o It better be a DB9 for that money!

The parts you mentioned above are they the same for a 20k service? as I got quoted those parts would be changed on my service which is due quite soon.

Yeah 40K for the petrol is a little pricey as it includes everything from the 20k service ( £219) plus Spark plugs and air filter. I was still surprised it was such a long service for Air filter, i ended up replacing mine after 20k anyway as it was so gunked up. Too much London Grime in it.

The Service schedules are so hit and miss

Although i do think the Variable service on the VW's is better, although top oil for the diesel cost a bomb as it was the longlife stuff. The only trouble is its hard to budget for the service as you only have 1000 miles notice. And tends to be a lot more expesnsive. And a nightmare to keep track mentally of roughly when its due. First one on my TDi was 19000 i think, but you can go up to 30k depending on how much you thrash it i think.

I got mine done for £238 (Seat dealer) everything included. Oil cost £28 .My brake fluid's never been changed AFAIK though . Still seems a lot of money for whats done. Cambelt not due until 60k . Still on my first set of brake pads :) Hope the 50k will be cheaper

Interesting post guys, got my 40k service in 1000 miles, (1 month) nice to get a guide on prices....bout what i was expecting..bit releaved the cam belt dont need doing for another 20k, sounded expensive, was going to give Seat, Braintree a call an see how much they charge, but if it dont matter may get the garage down the road to do it, they sell VAG cars..

As said above you dont need to get a service done at a stealer.

Mine has, and always will be serviced at JBS in chesterfield, cheaper and will do a better job not leaving it to the apprentice mechanic who is on £40 a week to do it unlike Seat dealers!

The Inspection and Maintenance booklet that came with mine reckons that interval only applies to the Alhambra.

For all other models, the cambelt interval is 120,000 km (75,000 miles) for TDIs "with pump injector" other than the Alhambra.

It says 60k in mine so that's when it was replaced :)
