You mean a VNT1749VB?
250bhp from a VB!? What kind of engine mods did he have exactly!? that's pretty much unheard of where I come from.
What are EMP's?

Really don't know exactly, but the man works with dragters and got 2nd or 3rd place in European championships last year. 12mm pump and race nozzles for sure with modified head and camshaft. Maybe he had something that I don't know about, but it was with diesel only. No additives.

EMP=exhaust manifold pressure. This is critical to monitore when you set up any turbo and use it in its limits.

PS2 - Sorry if my English might not be that understandable for you - sometimes I just forget that I'm writing in a foreign language (like turb0) and wrongly assume that you understood my meaning.

I'm from Finland, so it's not your english that confuses me, it's mine's.[B)]

Thanks for the clarifying on the EMP's... Agree that's a critical figure along with EGT's in fine diesel engine tuning.

The VP TDI engines for obvious reasons reacts a bit differently to mods than PD TDI ones. Anyway, on a standard engine/head/block VP 1.9TDI you can already go past 240bhp with reliablity - even on a high-milleage daily driver such as this one: http://www.racingtdi.com/engine.htm

PS - After all there are a lot of non-native English speakers around...I guess the poor British guys are the one's who'll have a hard time figuring out most of what we're writing here...hehe..

All these cars that I have mentioned are non PD. My old VW T4 van is a daily driver with almost 200tkm on the clock and more than 300hp under the hood with diesel only. Even that it is 2.5TDI 5cyl inline, that means something like 230-240hp on a 1,9TDI plus it's harder to get top power out of the 5cyl as pump head tends to float more easily. I have a wide powerband with more than 200kW between 3300-5150rpm and some top power is sacrified to get decent low end as 2000kg van needs it badly. With steeper cam that I already have tried, I can get something like 20-30hp and 350rpm more, but that's useless in a daily driver as it totally killed the low end.

Without opening the head we have difficulties to get past 220hp on our dyno and power won't carry to 5000rpm. With the 1.9TDI we are trying to get past 250hp and with this big VNT (well, it's actually quite small as I have GT32v, GT37v and GT42v in my posession too) we ought to do it. Maybe we could have made it even with the GT2252v, but EMPs would have been dangerously high and we didn't want to brake anything. I'm just a little worried about the low end as this car is a daily driver too.

Although you can fit as large a turbo as there is room in the engine bay, i think for a road car, the GT1749vb is one of the best options, as it has a good A/R rating, & can make more boost without grenading or bearing/spindle damage, but due to the small size/high velocity, does rapidly heat the charge if the steady psi is too high.

The GT18-v's are also good for quick spool hybrid's, as thay have thicker housings to machine.

Even though a gt20-25 will not fit in my engine bay, i do like the power band low down the rev range, and would only use a very large VNT for track purposes.

My thoughts exactly. :)

Here's our new side exhaust. We are about to install 14mm pump head and additional lift pump. Paint job is still in progress too (those rims are not going to stay silver + lot more), so there's a lot to do before scheduled remap on 28th.

E: well, even with this monster of a turbo (at least on 1.9TDI) we are hoping to get decent low end. Maybe not at first try, but we have some ideas to improve low end performance too if needed. Remap will tell us more...

First drive with the gt2260v on has been made. Everything seems to be OK and low end is really good to my surprise. Tuesday's remap will tell much more. I think we are going to be underfueled...[B)]

i don't know about you guys but i have a 20/22 hybrid on my leon asv and there is enough room for a bigger turbo,i think next step would be gt25BB
