I have to agree, this sounds dodgy. I had a CRX stolen from me the day after i bought it and to be honest at the time id have put money on it being the previous owner. Even the police thought the same.

Saying that, you may have just got very lucky

just done one a full hpi check on it and it's come back not stolen, not written off, no colour changes and the VIN matches the one i got the guy to send me a picture of. spoke to him tonight and he's not THAT desperate if you see what i mean. i got sent some more pics of it and noticed he's using trade plates! he sounds quite young too, so maybe the high insurance has finally got to him, cos the 2 main things that he really seemed keen with on my car was the 40+mpg and the cheap insurance. his car also has a full service history (not a guarantee i know but that's more than mine's got!!) and every old mot cert with it. and it's got a huge stack of bills/receipts ect for bits like the cambelt, oil, plugs ect. but at the end of the day, he must be fairly sure his car is good to risk driving it all the way here, and to drive it on to an RAF base where I live. and due to the nature of work that goes on at this particular base (can't and won't say so don't ask!! or i'll have to kill you!:cartman:) they do a vehicle history check on every car that comes on. and check police records ect on both driver/passengers and the car!! I told him all this and he still seems keen! and also, one more thing, at the end of the day, he is getting a taxed/mot'd car out of it! so maybe he deems it worth his while to travel the distance for that?

i wouldn't do it.

at the end ouf the day although 205gti's were a great car at the time, you'll find it hard to come across one now which isn't suffering form its french contruction.

i just broke up my saxo trackday car which was only 8 years only and the french build quality had meant the only origonal part on it was the shell, and thats a whole gernaration on from the 205!

engines are not sophiticated in any way! week compared to any vag lump!
Very simple engine management and will not return both a smooth idle and resonable fuel economy!
At that milage expect it to burn oil, everything will be well worn in!

Rear beam trailing arm bearings will be dead with that miliage, your lucky if they last 60k most the time

Also the seller does sound dodgy as hell, you can tell he clearly thinks hes onto a great deal!

I've seen much lower milage 1.9's for less money
the 1.9 is not less tunable neither engine is a great engine to tune as the design is donkys old, the 1.9 only make 130bhp with a mentaly wild cam as standard (lumpy idle and all!)
A 1.9 with a 1.6 gearbox is pretty quick
