considering getting a 1.6 gti (very good reason for wanting the 1.6 over the 1.9 but I can't be bothered at this time of night!!) with reference to the threads title, your thoughts if you please??:p:p

I had a 205 GTI 1.6 until recently and love it to bits! I went for the 1.6 over the 1.9 on purpose, and I have to say its the best handling car I have ever driven.

Never driven an ibiza so can't compare them, but know which I would pick!!

Id have an ibiza any day of the week, but I think that the 205 looks dated and I'm just not a big fan of them

You have a PM

just replied fella!! they probably do look dated to a lot of poeple! especially when you consider how fresh and moder the mk2 ibiza still looks!! but we dont all buy cars on looks alone!! take my old silvia s12 turbo. only round things on it were the wheels and steering wheels!! very aquired taste. i seem to go for squared off cars!! mk2 golfs/silvia s12 aswell as liking a load of other square cars like the old lancer turbo 2000/mitsi starion ect! My main preferance when buying a car is how "chuckable" it is!!

If your looking for chuckable, 205 all the way, its like a go cart with a shell!

Ha ha I understand what you mean, I mean i'm all for having a car which is good fun to drive I really enjoy my valver - but I don't think I would buy something I didn't like the look of.
On the other side I love the shape of mk1 golfs and some other older squared cars - and like you say its all down to personal choice

mind you though ollie, that is one very nice looking ibiza you've got there!!! teledials never looked so good!! I actually didn't like the look of my old silvia when i got it!!! i literally bought it on the way it drove, and then unusual wedge of cheese shape grew on me! now i love em. would buy another but thanks to the popularity of drifting they now cost a mint!! A fella actually responded to my pistonheads advert already!! this is my ad:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/650472.htm

and this is the car i've been offered. it's done 149k miles.:

and now for the reason behaind the choice of a 1.6 over the 1.9!! basically it involced a lift home in a group N spec rally sprint car! it used to be a 1.9 but was converted to 1.6 due to the fact it can be tuned more, also the 1.6 box is a very close ratio! and it's easier to drop a 1.6 engine into a 1.9 than it was to convert a 1.6 to discs all round. Now i'm not a nervous car passenger:p but the lift home in this rally car was just something else!!! basically I was VERY quiet for the whole trip!:-o The guy driving could definately pedal a bit to say the least!!the most scary bit was when the guy was telling me how crap the road legal slicks were in the wet, right before a tight right hander with a lake sized puddle just before it!!:-o:-o:-o:cry::cry: to say it was the most memorable lift home ever would be an understatement:lol::lol:

That 205 looks nice, but I would negotiate on price if I were you!

The 1.9 is faster in a straight line, but the 1.6 is faster out the twisties due to the different gear box. A lot of people put the 1.6 gearbox into their 1.9s.

I sold my 1.6 for £1450 a couple of months ago, totally mint and original, on a J plate with 68,000 miles.

My ex had a 205 Mi16 race car...........that was just mad and stupidly fast!!! I loved it though.........well, until it nearly killed us!!!

spoke to the seller this morning, he's sending me some pics of the engine bay(cos i'm sad!!) and of the interior. this one really appeals to me cos it is standard right down to the tape player!!! to me a standard one has more than likely been ragged about less than a modded one (theoretically anyway!!) so i'll get them pics up soon as i can. don't get me wrong here though peeps, i still like my beefa! it makes me smile when i drive it, but even with all of the interior and most of the sound deadening i can still feel a bit of weight there! even though it weighed in at 965kg with half a tank of super!!
