Good
review. My thoughts as a
Formentor VZ2 owner on this 2025 FL....
+1 seats. If I had a choice again I'd definitely spec part microfibre seats over full nappa leather; they are cooler in summer, not as shocking in winter, but also softer and more comfortable in sponginess with caution for spill / stain risks. Not sure about the new bucket seat; the previous seats already hugged you enough, so I don't consider the new FL shape a step in the right direction. An integrated headrest is already a drawback for being non-adjustable.
+1 infotainment. backlit buttons and being more responsive is the only improvements the system needed.
+1 rear styling. Acceptable improvement.
-1 front styling. Previous model is more prominent.
+1 small power bump.
Would be very interested in any new gearbox programming on S+ mode, but as stated in the
review, it seems to be another step in the wrong direction as the issue with EA888 was always it's grating engine tone. Holding higher revs in S mode was already an annoyance. I know that you can bounce off the rev limiter in manual now. Not that it's ever pleasant rev out a 4 pot.
Still one of the best daily drivers you can buy today, albeit even worse value than it used to be. That new price bracket gets you into a BMW X3 with a better torque converter for daily duty, or something even faster with a much better engine noise. Agreed the higher spec is worth it, considering there is no longer any tax advantage to selecting a VZ2 since 4 years ago... yes I would also pick the VZ3 FL, code the soundaktor to 50% (where it should be) using
OBD11. Drive in individual mode, and take advantage of the incredible comfort that suspension provides. imo CUPRA mode works better as a boost in short bursts - why it's so helpful to hold the mode button, then 1 press back into individual.
Formentor works best as a Q car, blasting over terrible B roads. For the power, the MPG is very good as well.
