Autoglass replaced a cracked windscreen. The new one has about 4 inches of graduated dark tint at the top and this appears to be causing the auto lights to be over sensitive and the opposite for the wipers. I can't be 100% sure how they worked before, or whether the original screen had a top tint or not.

Autoglass can refit a screen without the top tint, but I'm not sure this is the right thing to do - maybe the sensors have always been a bit rubbish? Can anyone advise of the std spec or even what their cars have?

Also, are these sensor adjustable?

Hi, I have the same sensor and I think mine is the original screen and it does not have a tinted top strip. I believe from reading other posts that the sensitivity is adjustable through VAGCOM. Hope this helps.

If it is tinted at the top, it will definitely present the symptoms you're experiencing: sensor will think it's darker that it actually is and turn the lights on sooner, and there is more material for the sensor to have to go through to sense the rain, so the wipers will be less sensitive.

AS Neil stated, you can - at the very least - alter the light sensitivity via VCDS, but I'm not sure about the wiper sensitivity mate. Surely they shouldn't have fitted a screen which wasn't as the original?
