Morning! I have the above mentioned car, which has an ESP Button below the handbrake. Recently got the car so i've been completely a few searches on here, and I came across traction control. I can't find a button in order to turn Traction Control off, So I presume Traction Control is enabled when ESP is on?
Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, correct. When the ESP is "off" the TCS is also off, but you can never fully turn the ESP off - it is still active when it is "off" but has reduced sensitivity.

electronic stability program... if the car gets out of shape it will take power away/add brakes to the rear etc etc... some how it works out wats going on with the car and can help to correct itself... its weird but cool when it happens, as its like your not in control and shows how clever the system is!

its reassuring to know with TCS turned off you can give it some stick, but if you get in a pickle, ESP is still there to help out!

i have had esp save/help me about 3 times (once at brands!) :)

ahh i did wonder what was going on when i lost the back end on a island, I went for the extra acceleration tech but it sorted it self out. Strange feeling i must admit.

i've read somewhere that if you keep your finger on the ESP button for five seconds it then turns off the ESP as well as the traction control.......... i could be wrong though.

No I will correct you on this, to turn ESP off, you need to depress the button continously. Then it works.

Mark.

Gotta say that i have never felt any automatic control with the ESP turned off .......thank god.

First thing i do when i get in the car is turn the ESP off.....everytime!!

I think the thing is dangerous.

Try to pull out of a junction too quickly and the car leaves you stuck in the middle of the road with no power.

Equally frustrating coming out of bends.

I can't see how this is a safety feature at all i'm afraid

your talking about traction control not esp! ;)

by pushing the esp button you are turning the TCS off hence the light that lights up on the dash... the wheel with an arrow around it (shows you that your wheels may spin!)

i agree though that its dangerous when pulling out of a junction and it stops power........

you will get used to it and learn to feather the throttle, or like u do... drive the car with TCS off and let the wheel spin up! he he ;)

The two kind a come hand in hand though i think (ESP & Traction Control)??

It is fun to let the wheels spin but is still for me safer to control the wheel spin rather than let the ECU control it for you.

yes they go hand in hand, but the Electronic Stability Programme and Traction Control System are still different...

the TCS simply accesses the traction to the front wheels under acceleration... if it sees/feels their is not much grip available and you put ur foot down then it will stop the power going to the wheels!

personally i like TCS for normal driving as otherwise my tyres would not last as long! and also in bad weather conditions it is very good, makes it safer... e.g. if i floor it in 2nd or 3rd in the wet with TCS off my car has been know to move a metre (feels like a metre!) to the left and then a metre to the right! not very nice torque steer at all! (if i didn't have TCS in this type of weather condition i would have to feather the throttle a lot more!)

but yes, if i want to floor it properly (out of junctions etc) then il push the ESP button :)

They are actually very different - the Cupra has TCS but not ESP (although ESP was an option I believe).

If you've never felt it activate with it "off" then you're not trying :D (or trying so hard you didn't notice).

Trust me, it does kick in.

Fair comments all of the above.

I'm probably not trying enough, i quite like my wheels without the curb scars
