my car starting playing up on sunday, epc light coming on, rev counting going crazy, cutting out. so put it on the diagnosic machine on monday and there is 20 faults in the ecu. saying all the injectors are down, dump valve faulty, and other bits and pieces intermittent or malfuction. the car got chipped 2-3 weeks ago and i think thats what has caused this. any ideas?

if it was chipped recently (not remapped) ie had the cover off, reset the faults and take the car out for a drive, check for faults again. It could also be that theres been water leaking into the ecu due to bad workmanship and them not sealing the cover properly, ive had it happen to me.

reset the faults and the rev counter doesnt work and the low oil pressure light comes on.

if there is water in it, will it be a simply case of opening it up and letting it dry, or will it be knackered? will it bring fault codes up because its been chipped?

no codes for being chipped unless it was constantly exceeding requested boost etc.
as for water damage, no point speculating until you get it open and have a nosey for seepage.

If it was a fault in the code/map then it would have happened as soon as the code was uploaded.

Sounds like the remap might have highlighted a problem somewhere that wasnt a major problem when running standard boost.

or

something has failed, whether it be a sensor, hose, etc... Which is quite common.

ok first thing we really need to know is who did the work and was it "chipped" (i.e. the ECU was opened and a replacement chip soldered on the ECU's curcuit board) or remapped (new engine performance code was uploaded via the cars diagnostic port)

it was chipped and i took the ecu out to day and its full of water. At least it wont cost me anything!! thanks for the help.

why won't it cost you anything?

are they replacing it with a std one & giving you your money back?

ditto morks post, its certainly not going to be under warranty. £648 for a new ecu alone.

Sorry for being very stupid But where actually is the ECU can you upload a pic of engine bay with an arrow pointing or something??

Cheers

i mean it wont cost me anything cause its bad work manship, the lad who chipped it doesnt seem interested, but the garage where i got it done (they get some one in to do the chip) say that they dont want a bad name and they are picking the car up in the morning and they are gonna sort even if they have to buy an ecu and refund me.

I bet he will do tomorrow when the garage find out how much a new ECU is & can't work out why it doesn't let the car start..........

it was a chip, turbo chips or some thing like that you call them. the man who chips them not the garage tried to fob me off by spraying a bit of brake cleaner on the ecu and blowing it off. but its rusting in bits, and you can see the tracking between the chips. wont start at all now! getting a new ecu for it.
is that price an upto date price and from vw with vat.
