2.0Gti 8v cutting out randomly

right , sorry to bring this up again but im having similar issues , mine still gets fuel but no spark , does it randomly mainly when warm , twice tongiht it done it so i had a fiddle with the coilpack to dizy lead , the main plug to the coilpack from the loom and all the ht leads , no sign of anythiong wrong , it turns over but wont start , sometimes trys to but doesnt and them it pops the vaccum hose off the throttle body , a friend (who works for seat ) suggested the coilpack , both times i manged to restart the car was when i had a large flatblade stuck in one of the ht leads checking for a spark , i cant here any clicking from mine , but there is a strong smell of cat converter after a couple of turnovers anyone got any ideas or should i try the cp sensor or just leads and things first ?

You could try fiddling with the cable for the cranksensor - be careful though - if it breaks you definately wont be able to start the car! I'm not sure how mine was even working for half an hour in the state that it was in, but it was definately the culprit. Its behind the oil filter, but the cable for it comes round in front of the filter so you could move that a little to see if it helps. If you want to try the ECU or fuel pump relays, I have a spares .

mine fixed as well now (i hope ) changed the coil and bobs your uncle it fired up in first turn

Hello guys reading this conversation sounds alot like the issue im expriencing, the car runs fine then just cuts out, i pull over wait five minutes and it starts up again then cuts out then starts up ect & is realy doing my sweed in, i have put new plugs in & filters all round now im stuck, im thinking fuel issue or spark?? Please can u help :-(

would the destributer also cause this problem?? I cleaned out the carberetta and it ran ok for a while then cut out again, my last options are Cranksensor, Fuel Filter or Destributer which should i try first in your opion?? I have put 4 new plugs & leads, new coil, dizzy ect the cost is mounting & my brain is frying :-(
