Need help!
Its fine when at idle but if i drive and then slow down it cuts out.. Any ideas? I'm really concerned!

I've had the battery, rotor arm, dizzy cap, and amp for dizzy changed and its still doing it.

had a really good look around the engine bay for any cracks in pipes etc but cant see anything.

As ever your help is appreciated!

sounds like possibly either too much air or fuel or possibly the other extreme of not enough

apart from air leaks which sounds like you have looked - i would check/test/replace the inj temp sensor as it may be giving a false reading to the ecu to send too much/little fuel in as a choke

alternatively the flywheel sensor right at the bottom front are quite common for both faults and cleanup

try/check the temp sensor first as its cheaper/easier to fit - not looked at an 8v for ages but i assume its the same/similar 4 pin one on top of the water housing by the dizzy

Thanks i'll have a look. It's not just a case of it cutting out now though. Took it for another spin and it doesnt misfire but almost feels like someones slammed the brakes on. Then it will run again etc.

I've just had a search and people in the past have suggested cleaning the throttle body. How do i go about that?

remove it - only a few bolts and a clip for the air pipe

and use carb cleaner to de varnish it all inside

There's no F in Quality..
Luke, for another cheap fix, try a new ECU Control Relay..... £10.80 from VW/Seat ;)

I had a very similair problem on my 1.6 Cordoba, and found the answer when looking on CGti for other similair faults on Golfs. Apparently it's a common fault on Mk3 Golfs, and they use the same relay as my Cordoba, and I suspect the same on the Mk2 Ibiza's.

It's going to be one of the things I try when I pick up the Ibiza I've won on Ebay, it's got the same fault !! ;)

Will post the P/N up in a bit....

If you look at the relay/fuse board under the steering wheel, you should see a relay with a big '30' on the top, that's the suspect unit. Take it in to VW/Seat and ask for another one..... ;)

Worth a try for the price!!

Cheers I'll give it a go.

Any simple stuff i'll have a go at but mates dad's a mechanic so he does most of it.

Andy, he went to fit those brakes last week and the passenger side caliper was pooped... Not sure why though. They have been lying around for a while

I have the same sorta probs with my 8v! Had it in and they looked at the fault codes and found a speed sensor issue so cleared that but still doing as before so they said to me either keep it or get the distributor changed!

I said go for the dizzy and once they did that it still did the same but cutting out sooner rather than the 15 odd miles previous so went back and they tested it for a few more miles and it did the same and gave out the same speed sensor issue in the dizzy. Nxt thg was that the wiring in the loom could b the issue so i agreed to get that re-wired yesterday and Im going back to pick it up 2day to see the situation!

Will keep you informed!

p.s he did mention the ecu could be ****ed in some way to but ???:censored: not!

Hi,

I have a Golf with a AGG engine in it and I had a similar problem and in the end found that it was the inginion switch. The test was to just drive the car and wiggle/fiddle with the switch, DO NOT switch it to the off position other wise you will switch the engine off and the power steering will not work and you may even engage the steering lock.

The problem would then disappear and come back when it felt like it.

I don't know if this is the problem but it's what I found fixed my problem after replacing the coil.

Just fitted a new ECU COntrol relay. It's still cutting out. I thought I heard a clicking from around the steering column but now you mention it it does seem to be near the ignition switch!

Off to test it! Will let you know what I find. how much will that be to replace???

I know what the problem is!!!
It's the engine speed sensor. I took it back to the garage and it cut out as I drove in, they scanned it straight away and it picked up the fault.

Only thing is they aren't cheap! Anyone know of an AGG being broken?

Got mine for about 40 quid, it was a local motor factors, everybody else were asking for 100 quid plus. Just have a look for local motor factors and phone around.

P.S I wouldnt get a secondhand one as there a pain in the arse to get out, and you will probably have to replace it again some time later. Good luck

I'm always caeful when buying from ebay!

My motor now has a slight stutter every other journey. Then didn't happen for a week until yesterday, got a slight flutter from the engine again, maybe the first signs of this so have kept an eye on this thread with interest ;)

Yeah I got one.. Got it off Ebay for £37 inc VAT + Delivery.
Had it fitted yesterday (had to remove an engine mount!!!!) and cars running great now, I could immediately feel the difference in power and it's not so much as stuttered! The wiring from the old sensor was rotten so was causing intermittent faults.

I'm well happy to have my car back! It's been knackered for 7 weeks ish!!! Had it tracked and balanced too so handling like a dream :)
