Well it time to purchase some new rubber on my 16v gti . At the mow i have the standard 195/45/16 tyres on my multyspokes. It would seem that some people have fitted 205/45/16 rubber. Can these be fitted safley and if fitted will they mess up the handling. Made this mistake before, wider rubber looks good but can really mess up the handling. What you recon guys........:help:

The wider rubber will increase your cornering grip but it will make the car less responsive when initially turning in. The wider rubber will also fractionally affect your MPG and top speed etc.
I don't know whether 205's will fit on a 6J wide wheel, hopefully somebody else will confirm.

On the similar topic:
I was looking at mytyres.com and they do Toyo T1-R's in both the 195/45/16 and the 195/40/16 sizes. the 40's are £4 more per corner which isn't that much really. Are there any advantages/disadvantages for the 40's (on a lowered car)??

Cheers

the 205's will fit fine, the Ibiza's arches are mahoosive.

I run 195/45/16 on my winter wheels & 215/40/16 on my summer wheels.
Lowered 40mm. Get a slight scrubbing on big pot holes with the 215's because my 95 ibiza has the arch lip on the rear arches (it being pre-facelift, the 96 onwards cars don't have this)

using a lower profile tyre will bring the car to the ground more, look cooler and will have less flex in the sidewall of the tyre BUT it comes at the price of comfort.
