Hey it has been done but has to be done properly or can look really stupid. ie wheel arches rolled, have a look at rashcupras readers ride thread he rolled the arches to accomidate BBS 18s and pulled it off in a fantastic way. This seems to get asked alot so if you don't get many responses try searching the mk 4 section for 18s I'm sure a lot will come up.

what do you have on there at the moment? If you are doing coiles and new wheels, maybe do the coilies first and see how low you want it. then consider diferent size wheels from there.

i just lowered mine 25mm and got 17s and they look good when i bought my alloys they trid 18s on my car but it looked a bit silly so went 17s
Well I have 17s and a pot hole ruined my bank holiday costing me £60 to get it bent back and re coated and no wheel for over a week so makes no odds really. But 17s will be alot less effort!
iv got standered 16s on and its lowered all the way on the rear and about 6 turns left on the fromt only time il change to 17s is if i come across some fr 17" wheels but there hard to come by or they are stupid money
