Hi all,

I have a question about the headlights on my GTi 16v, are the dipped beams meant to go out when you put the full beams on? Because mine do and the full beams are pretty much useless! I've tried adjusting the horizontal/vertical spread of the full beams but it hasn't made much difference. I've checked the bulbs and i've checked the wiring and they're all fine. If I hold the dipped beam/full beam stick towards me both bulbs stay on and it seems like this is how it should be (but i cant go driving around holding the indicator stick towards me constantly when on full beams :help:)

Thanks,

Andy

Yep they the dipped beams go off when you put your full beam on.... unless u hold it like you said. They use the same bulbs but the full beam is adjusted so goes futher I guess but it's not the best.

I've got some Osram Nightbreaker bulbs and found they have improved the lighting loads as it says on the box "10% whiter and 90% brighter" gives a nice white look to the lights to.

mine stay on when flashing and placed on high beam from memory

only thing i have done is unplug the lamp resistor because of the hid's and wired the the front fogs with a diode to the high beam so i get all 6 lit up

Well you got a magic one, the two chambers just make it look pretty compared to the 1.4's etc... ;)

Been out to check the GTi - high beam inner chamber dipped beam outer chamber. Both stay on :D

On our 1.4 the single chamber lights switch off dipped beam when high beams turned on.

Dedication and sadness all in one!

Lamp resistor?

Will unplugging this mean that I can have HID main and high beam on together?

Cheers!

not sure but that is the only thing from standard i have done to mine

mind you thinking about it there is a relay rigged up to the twin lamp conversion (pluggs into standard loom)

might be that doing it instead

There's no F in Quality..
I fitted Gti headlamps to my old 1.4 Mk2, and they were the same, dipped went out when you put full beam on.....

First time I had it MOT'd with them fitted, they tried failing it..... until I got in touch with the local VoSA office, who rang the garage and reminded them of the MOT requirements ;)
