Hi all,
helped a friend wire a 2.0l 16V ABF engine into a mk1 golf today with the help of a couple of wiring diagrams :)

When the engine starts (which is always good), however the tick-over is right up the spout it sort of revs hard then almost stalls then repeats constantly as if it is searching.

The engine was apparently running fine before it was removed from the Cordoba, so I am not sure any of the sensors are knackered, however the complete loom was stripped out and ripped to bits leaving just the ECU loom and the sensors that were attached to the engine.

Does anybody have any thoughts/suggestions on this? (I mean usefull ones:whistle:)

we had this similar problem at a track day a few years back.turned out to be the sensor that connects to the side of the air box.the socket was fine,it was the wire going into it that had worn through. engine revved up and down rapidly.

Well......... on a valver its located in the pipe leading from the air filter box to the throttle body, so i'm guessing you have an air filter of some kind on the car so just locate it between that and the throttle body and it should do the job.
