Can anyone tell me the width of the 16" multi spoke wheels fitted as standard to early Leon Cupras?

Also what is the correct original tyre size, 225/50R16?

I've just bought a Mk4 Golf which has standard 16" x 6.5" BBS wheels with 205 width tyres. It does not have the same grip as my old LC used to, and that had 225 width tyres, but I'm concerned 225 tyres will be too wide for the wheels I have.

Well, there's something I've learned then. The whole time I had my LC it had 225/45R16s on it and I thought they were standard size.

It certainly gripped well with them!

they are definately 16 x 7j just checked, I have 225/ 40/ 18s on it now, but the grip is poor due to the bad tyres. Dry weather is great but as soon as it rains, all I get is wheelspin and understeer

IBD, Thanks for that, I've done a bit of research and I reckon I can get away with 225 tyres on my 6.5" wide wheels.

225 width was fine on the Leon wheels. I was hoping they were the same size as the Golf ones.

Should be fine, cant see you getting any rubbing issues, as you are changing the profile of the tyre should be similar rolling radius
