hey,

Been while since I have been on here but planing on getting 2nd car since we have the 2nd little one due in 7 weems and will now need two cars.

I am going to see 3 cars this weekend
1.6 fr 2012 £8500 34988 miles
, 2x 1.2 fr 2013 around 9700 and 9200 21025 and 29100 miles

also have a black 1.2 2014 fr but it s around 10450 not sure if I want to go that high.

Looking for economy but with a bit of power I drive about 30 or so miles 5 days a week into Aberdeen on a96 so hit traffic and general stop start traffic once into Aberdeen.

Can't decide which to go for and what to offer last seat I had was a 1.4 Leon sport 2010 and mpg was around 33 if I was good.

Just looking to see what advice people have and why to avoid either.

Probably better off going with the petrol of you're diing ~150 miles a week
And go for whichever FR has better service history, in better condition, more extras.

I'd second that. Have both on our driveway. Only got the diesel due to a long commute. Is quick but power band seems narrow, not nice sounding and takes 8 miles to reach operating temperature. The only downside of the manual petrol is that 5th is slightly low. Ideally it could do with a 6th gear pulling around 30 per 1000.

There's always room to haggle especially when paying cash.
What reg are the cars?

Cheapest 8500 1.6tdi is 2012
1.2tsi
2013 8990 (29000ish miles) the other is 9700 (21000ish miles)

seems fair difference on the 2013 models but there is 8000 miles give or take difference.

I reckon you could haggle down to ~9000
But go for the FR with more extras that will help you hold value come the time to sell it on.

That what I was hoping the £9700 one is the newest but can't decide whether I want red one , the other is white which is nice but the crv is white and its a nightmare keep clean up here lol.

Is red easy kept? Had a black Leon and it was bit pain keep clean and showed up scratches a bit to easy.

Personally I'd go for white
Red card seem to go dull after a few years if they're not properly taken care of. I think it's oxidation that causes it.
I'm sure you'll be lookingn after it so it's all down to personal preference, good luck :D

I'm fairly sure the 2013 will be a revised version of the 2012. You will notice the stereo is different. The revised versions have white font on the displays instead of red. If so I'd get the 2013 as they come with hill assist as standard on all models as well as traction control and other bits and bobs.

I've got a 1.2 tsi FR and really like it although wish it had a bit more grunt - but considering what it is the performance is amazing really..

I looked at the diesel but also do short start stop journeys and didn't fancy the dpf issues !

quick probably stupid question but thought I would ask.

I pick up the car on Friday from kikcaldy and I was planning to get it signed in my partner name instead of mine but we are due to have our next child in 7 weeks so there no chance she going 120 miles odd to get it.

Is it possible in anyway to get her name on the documents, as far as I am aware I need to sign the registration documents while I am there?

At the end of the day, is it an issue, I mean, the "owner" is not always the "registered keeper". I plan to get my wife a new car soon, but for convenience I'll probably place the order in her name. Years ago I owned our single car, but wife, a teacher, insured it as she got a good deal with CU ( > NU > Avviva >?), and she was the main user, when we bought a second car, I made sure that it was in her name, but the second insurance was in my name! Very messy for a few years until we replaced both cars and tied the car ownership and insurance to one person. It was only the guy in the Post Office I used to buy "road tax" that found this very annoying.

Now do I go gloss or Matt. I need new wheel caps as current one look tatty so I need decide if I want black alloy then best get black caps to match.

Personally I think gloss black looks amazing. The only problem is that they look terrible when they haven't been cleaned. But look really nice when they are clean.

If I'm not mistaken, matt paint is damaged easier than gloss.

I've always wondered what the difference between powder coating and painted is as far as wheels are concerned?

I got a set of used 18" 5 spoke alloys for winter use on my B8 S4, I just got them powder coated and they seem okay - for winter use, finish is nothing like I would expect if they were painted. Just my two pence worth really, usual plan is to get all four wheels refurbished at the same time as final finish on all of them will be the same, getting just two done, even if black might cause you some disappointment, so maybe a change in colour is a good idea!
