Does anyone know what sort of power/torque can be extracted from the 1.4TDi as fitted to the Arosa/Lupo? It wouldn't have to be road legal, but propane/NOS can't be used.

Depends how deep your pocket is, the 75bhp 3 cylinder engine can get close to 100bhp on std bits, none std bits however no one knows, as they just get the 1.9 ;)

my 1.4tdi in 2007 ibiza is now running around 105-110bhp and 185 torque
standard it was 75 bhp and 145 torque

thats just with a customcode remap and green filter

i can imagine with the 1.9tdi turbo and other bits you could prob reach around 130bhp?? but dont quote me on this as i am no mechanic or tuner

It would be for a motorsport project where the rules state that the existing block has to remain, so unless VW/SEAT ever did a 1.9TDi Lupo/Arosa then I'm stuck with the 1.4 unit. However, the class I run in allows pretty much any other mods as long as the block remains externally identifiable as the original, although propane/NOS injection is not allowed.

I know that Allard Motorsport have built some very powerful 1.9TDi VAG units, just wondered if anyone has or knows of anyone that might have gone to town on the 1.4 unit.

Well a 1.4 TDI is basically 3/4 of a 1.9 TDI. So in theory you could do all the traditional 1.9 TDI tuning like race nozzles, bigger turbo, etc. Turbo would need to be fitted to the 3 branch manifold of course.

I believe 150+ is not out of reach, and that's on the stock bottom end. I reckon you'd need to throw about £6k or so at it to get it to this level though.

What about water/methanol injection? :D

I dont want to go off topic, so please feel free to reply to me via PM, however what motorsport class are you running in? Why does it need to be the Arosa/Lupo? I sure I heard many a moon ago that diesel engines could run bigger engines than their petrol counterparts in certain class's aka upto 1.4 petrol you could see 1.9 diesels?

I compete in hillclimbs in the up to 1400cc class and yes you're right I could compete with a 1.9TDi Ibiza (for example) in the same class as the rules currently allow this. However, I'm sure that if someone came along with a properly modded 1.9TDi and kicked everyone's asses in the class then the regs would soon be revised...

Personally I like very small cars and the Lupo/Arosa appeals more than an Ibiza. Just exploring all options at the moment.

Actually you could use any VAG 4 cyl. parts but you shouldnt leave out your eye, that the 75hp Engine comes with a wastegate turbo. So if you want to use any turbo from per example 130hp 4cyl. you have to convert your pressure controlled wastegate turbo to vacuum controlled VNT unit. Unless of doing that, you can use any 4cyl turbo and cut of and close 4th runner. Or you can take the turbo plus mapping from Audi A2 1.4 90hp which is already a VNT type turbo and gives you a little more headroom.
Injectors from 4cyl. will fit, you could use 550cc injectors from ARL/ASZ engine.

But dont forget of giving a stronger clutch*g*

If you do get it onto VNT turbo's then my PM should help you there. As decent power can be made from these. All depends what sort of power would you want it to finish up being?

The only bad on the audi turbo: its a kkk device. so you cant easily convert to a bigger compressor side like possible with Garrett units...

No, i mean to build up a hybrid device will not work with kkk turbos like with garrett...
I also had the kkk kb39 and conversed to garrett gt1752hybrid...but you cant make a kkk kb39/52 hybrid, thats what i want to say.

Oh right yes I understand now. Like yourself I had to replace the KKK unit if I wanted to go hybrid.

If your doing it from stratch, just go for garrett to start with :)
