I got 26-30 when I booted the 2.0 Sport and around 35-36 when I was being sensible. So surely the 1.8 must be slightly better than that. Maybe it's your style of driving. ;)

Over a journeys distance i seem to be getting 28-30 mpg out of my 20vt FR.......its only done 700 miles since i got it.....would that affect the mpg?

Will it get better?

Hope so :( bloody petrol station know me first names terms

It does seem to get better once the engines loosened up a bit - I could have cried when I got 220 miles out of my 1st full tank! Getting average of 300 to a tank now (without venting).

You didn't happen to be pulling out of the Fort Shopping centre on Monday? I saw a red 06 plate FR?

Cheers.

I was 2 cars behind you at the traffic lights before the M8 - You went one way - I went the other. There's not many FR's about these parts - or so I thought till someone 2 streets away from me bought one exactly like mine!

Anyway back to topic - For that age and money id leave it mate, its not a very good engine when it comes to insurance/mpg/performance together. Id really go for a 1.4TDi or 1.9TDi 75 or 100bhp. They 'feel' MUCH faster and are a lot more responsive + very economical. God i just had a 1.4 75BHP Petrol from Ted Johnsons and it took about 1.5 seconds to respond to the throttle and actually felt dangerous to even think about overtaking - not fun and worse than my old 1.2.

The TDi's are generally a better bet, the money extra you'll pay will depreciate less, return much better fuel figures, and cost less to insure. Also if you get bored of it, get a remap and up them to 105/135BHP respectively. My mate just had his 75TDi remapped to 105ish and its just lovely, digs you into your Seat in 2-4th gear and gets 65MPG on insurance group 4! :D cheep cheep

 how do you vent then

Theres a little black rubber nipple inside the filler hole. Its on the right hand side a few inches in. Give this a poke with the fuel hose and youll hear a "Tshhhhhhh" noise as the air escapes. You also hear this being fired when you screw the fuel cap on.

Any Ideas why this may be happening?

This seems as good a place as any to ask it. As there doesn't seem to be that many 100hp 1.4l petrol Sport owners out there. Has anyone else had a persistent leak following a routine oil change? Started right after my 30k service now been back 4 times to repair this & only done 2.1k since...

Appears to be from the Sump Nut... ! 1st time I brought it back to them they told me(I overherd) that they had missed placing the washer on the bolt. Next time they infomed me that they changed the Sump Nut as well as washer & replaced new oil once again while taking the time to also clean the threading in the Sump! Today they'd like to remove the bottom half of the Sump send it out to be inspected somewhere before replacing & so forth...

I bet they stripped the thread or nut by crossing the thread and it's loosening over time.... they want to send it off the have it helicoiled (or however it's spelt) they just don't want to tell you.........
